Hell I'm okay with it in someways even with the hindsight of Bennett blowing up in Florida, because he still wasn't that guy here.

You said it better than I was going to. Value is calculated at the time of a transaction. And if the trade had been Bennett + 1st plus prospect for Toffoli plus 2nd I suspect everyone (even big Bennett supporters) would be pretty OK. I know this because even many of the hindsight “told you so” folks here were OK with a 2nd and Heineman at the time.

I wanted Toffoli in free agency a few seasons ago, so I'm pretty happy they finally got him. It just made a lot of sense and the cost wasn't all that much either. Honestly it's about the price of what I'd expect to pay for Toffoli as a rental. Considering he's signed for 2 more seasons after this one, seems like a huge win to me.

Not a fan of giving up a first but we got a good player with term. This is the year to go for it if there ever was one, and depending how the Johnny and Chucky negotiations go, it may be a while before it happens again.

Overall it's a good move to me, I'd much rather have Tyler Foli than Chiarot.

I just don't know if my faith in Monahan regaining form is something I would bet on vs swapping him for a center who is healthy and playing better leading up to this point.

Its tough to say because I'm a huge fan of the guy but if this is the Flames all in moment, i think you have to evaluate Monahan with objective scrutiny.

If you're trying to best a team like Colorado, I think you feel better with someone like Pavelski there if that were a possible move.

Pavelski is a pure rental with a 3 team trade list. Plus he’s 37. He’s lighting it up now, but POs can grind on a guy like that. Also, I doubt Dallas is ready to give up yet. If it’s super cheap and he is willing to come, sure.
