Looking forward to going to the game Saturday night and watching Johnny vs the Greasers.
I'm sure there will be more than one highlight reel come out of that game.

as for JOHN,

Unless everyone else on the ice was thinking about golf tee times next week, he outplayed alot of the players on both side of the ice. Yes, I am bias, but I am a realist is almost everything in my life. Barring injury, he will not play a minute in the AHL. What am I suppost to say???? 25 pts? NO, I'm not.

USHL -
They said "He might be able to make the 2nd line or so and be ok, he just too small"

I Said "He's gonna shock ppl"

Results - Do I even need to list them

NCAA -
They said "Now these kids are bigger and better, he might be an ok player, he's just
too small"

I Said "He will out play this kids, he's too good too skill"

Results: Do I need to list them

World Juniors
They said "He got cut from the previous year for a reason, He may make the team this year, but he's too small"

I Said "They made a mistake not taking him and he will scored with the best of them.

Results: Do I need to list them

NHL-
They Say - You know what has been said
I say - "60 pts with 80 pt ceiling.....

I've never short changed him and he has yet (even through his first game in NHL) to let me down, and I'm not starting now. Sorry

I was convinced after his first year at BC. I've seena lot of hockey at many different levels and watching some of the things he would do, it was stuff I'd never seen before. It convinced me that his size wouldn't matter just like it didn't for a few exceptions in the past. I thought it was pretty easy to see early on that he was an exception.

Some people would look at his points and say well people have had crazy college careers before and never amounted to much otherwise, but I don't think those people were watching as much as some others. If you were seeing the types of things he was doing to create those points, I think you were pretty easily swayed.

But size was the main issue for the bulk of the naysayers. And then when they realized that it may not hinder him all that much (and is actually an advantage for him), the naysayers switched to the potential Schultz scenario, which didn't even exist for Johnny.

The point being, naysayers stuck to their initial overreactions to his stature and would look for reasons why they might be right anyways. Just human nature.

The lesson to be learned? No one, whether they be a 1st overall or the last pick in the draft should be overlooked until they prove they don't belong. Every prospect is equal as soon as the draft is done. The amount of people on here that think they have 18-22 year olds completely figured out is kind of crazy. "he's no more than a 4th liner." "Tops out as a #3 C." Those things really annoy me.

I just think its cool to look back at the last 3-4 years when he hits milestone like this, just to picture how far he came, just like 100pts or 100g or first all-star, Geeze tough crowd....

I wasn't sure what he'd be...........but I was convinced most on here were far too concerned about him not signing, and more people than less were already convinced he was going to be an NHL superstar and were scared because Sven was on a down turn that we'd scare Johnny away and he'd be lighting it up with some other organization.

This is what I remember most about people's feelings. But then again, I don't remember BChockeyDude's epic and bold post of predictions, so clearly I have a selective memory.

Just browsing through some stats this morning and I saw a couple things that jumped out.

Filip Forsberg (20 years old) - 13 Goals, 19 Assists, 32 Points, +25, 4 game winners
Johnny Gaudreau (21 years old) - 10 Goals, 17 Assists, 27 Points, +9, 2 game winners

They both have August 13th birthdays, Forsberg is just a year younger. That kid can play. I know this is a Gaudreau thread but damn, Forsberg is lighting it up in Nashville.

And Ekblad is having a great year (can't compare stats with a d-man).

Many previous years Johnny is a shoo-in for the Calder. This year he's in tough. I actually think he's got the PR edge, being an Eastern American Hobey Baker winner, having a cool nickname and playing in a Canadian city (as opposed to Forsberg playing in a southern non-traditional market city).

On merit it's hard to deny Forsberg at this point.

27pts in 35g.

first 5 games 0pts

within the first 10 games he wasn't getting consistant top PP time, 4v4 time, OT time.

so do I think he could get a ppg this season, I still think there is a semi long shot. But with the ice time he shown he could dominate in like 4v4 (ex: back to back OT game with 0 mins on the ice) he would have a realistic shot at 80pts.

Edit: opps didnt pick up on the green text vibe

I'm guessing that if you stop crapping on all of cp for what maybe a handful of posters may have said, all the while pumping your own tires, the crowd wouldn't be so tough. Most of us, myself included, knew he had all world skill by his second season at BC. His size was definitely a concern, and rightly so. Just enjoy the ride like the rest of us.

Forsberg has 4 game winners (2 against the Oilers) and a shootout winner, plus he has assisted on 4 game winners.

was a daily convo up til about a month ago, Obviously its not everyone on here. But day 1 95% ppl were overall doubters. And I was in the 5%. now 3 years later its 5% doubts and ive enjoyed the ride. Vancouver last game of the year is when I believe the majority swicthed believers.

Its just a milestone that is super sweet to enjoy 3-4 years into the journey
I also don't remember anyone questioning his skill or speed. If it was 95% as you say, should be easy for you to find examples.

Yup this is a tough crowd when you
- Suggest that this board has one collective opinion
- Miss-represent what this forum has been saying about this player for years. There has been growing optimism about the player since he was drafted. No one was questioning skill or heart
- Pat yourself on the back numerous times

Yup. Tough crowd when you do that. We are a big pile of jerks to people who are kinda jerks to us.

He's looking pretty damn good compared to the #1 overall in the 2011 draft too.
