1. I don't think the Flames want to get rid of Brouwer nearly as bad as some of the fans do.
2. Brouwer has a full NTC, lives in Calgary and just signed a 4 year deal last off season.
3. The Blues had to attach potentially 2 1st round picks to Lehtera in order to move him.

I would trade Ellis 10/10 times before I would consider moving Josi.
Ekholm is really the only one of the four I could see them considering, but then they're just creating a hole that will be difficult to fill.

How did Lehtera get that contract though? His agent must be a bulldog in negotiations to pull that off.

Poile was on the Sportsnet coverage after the first round was over. They asked him about trading any of the top four. He basically said "they are the reason we got to where we got to, so no, and we'll be going for Free Agents". And repeated it.

I know you can never trust what a GM says re: trades, but he seemed pretty set on that.

Don't forget that he followed it up with "I've got to stop trading away defensemen, I've done it too much in recent years" or something to that effect.

Don't know why so many people think this, it is 100% false. He has a modified NTC wherein he supplies a list of 15 teams he can't be traded to.

We think it because it's actually 100% true.

Indeed it is. Brouwer's contract carries a full NTC for years 1 and 2, and the limited NTC that Jables16 discussed in years 3 and 4.

My bad, will eat crow on that one, reverted to my response to a couple a Oilers fans I know trying to tell me Brouwer has a full NMC. Brouwer' contract isn't good but at least it's not Lucic bad.

Dumping Lehtera cost a first round pick.

That's not much of a market.

Well if you ignore Schenn, it was two first rounders.

Schenn cost a first rounder, another was sent to dump Lehtera. If you go on the Blue's boards, everyone there wanted him dumped, and they new the cost of doing so. He's terrible now.

oh I agree he sucks and that no one is taking Brouwer as is, I just don't know if it's a simple as one first for Schenn one for the dump. We're keeping brouwer and his intangibles for the foreseeable future, for sure.

You are correct that it's not quite that simple. But Lehtera had huge negative vale, his play has massively regressed each year. Their would have been a huge cost associated with dumping him. We saw what Vegas extracted to take on bad contracts, it was a first round pick.

Brouwer is no where close to being Lehtera bad, FWIW.

Duchene can't sign an extension until after next July 1st, he has 2 years remaining still.
