This makes me so happy, wish I was there.

Latest CBC story...
Quote:
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith pressured the attorney general and his office to intervene in COVID-related court cases, according to multiple sources familiar with the interactions.
Exchanges between the premier's office and Justice Minister Tyler Shandro's office over several months included what sources characterized as attempts to influence cases.
"I would classify it as inappropriate," one source close to the situation said. CBC News has agreed not to name them because of potential professional repercussions.
Smith would ask for updates on cases or inquire whether it would be possible to abandon them, they said.
This specifically included the prosecution of Artur Pawlowski, a pastor charged with two counts of criminal mischief and a charge under Alberta's Critical Infrastructure Defence Act related to the Coutts border blockade.
Another source with knowledge of the situation confirmed Smith committed to taking that case to Shandro with the intent to make the charges go away.
|
Quote:
The premier said she had no knowledge of the matters and launched an email search, which her office said yielded no evidence of email contact.
The government later added that deleted emails would only be retained for 30 days, which would reach back to Dec. 22.

In October, following an in-person meeting, Levant advocated for the premier to drop COVID-related charges. He outlined what he thought she should do in a lengthy email to Smith's office. Levant confirmed the contents of the email and the meeting with the premier.
"The Premier was interested in any information that I could provide her about the situation on the ground and the mechanisms available to her to provide leadership on these issues," reads part of the email, obtained by CBC News.

This is wild.
And it has just about every "political character" in it in Alberta politics: Danielle Smith, Ezra Levant, Tyler Shandro, Artur Pawlowski.....you name it.
This isn't going to go away.

This shouldn't be a surprise at this point.

LOL, now she's using official government communications to lash out at the media, despite her being the one that defamed herself. The "allegations" are just her words. Danielle Trump is as big a disaster as her namesake.

P.s. - if you haven't been following the law society hearings, you should. Also wild. Reporters live tweeting it on twitter. Absolutely wild, it's like the mini-séries to the upcoming movie!

I have absolutely no idea why Tyler Shandro is going ahead with plans for re-election, unless he's a glutton for humiliation.

My only complaint about the live-tweeting of Shandro's hearing is that we can't see his cheeks get redder and redder as he gets mad.

My favourite part of the cbc article today was the quote from Pawlaski and Levant saying that Shandro was too stupid to have made this call, and it had to have been Smith helping them!
Shandy is totally unloved by both sides. He is the actual bottom of every totem pole.

CBC-bashing is low hanging fruit in Alberta. My worry is the the safety of the journalists in the field trying to cover campaigns, as the rhetoric no doubt will play into the hands of some.

Just caught that the email review would have only caught upto Dec 22, and nothing older than that?
No wonder that review was so quick, they out had a couple of weeks of emails to even potentially look at...

One thing I don't get about the Shandro situation. Apparently his ownership of Vital Partners is "OK" because it is through a blind trust. Since it is 50% ownership of a private company (with the other 50% being his wife) I don't see how a blind trust prevents it from being a conflict if he makes decisions that benefit the company?

No kidding and think about it, it politicians could just blind trust their way into exonerating conflicts wouldn’t they just de facto do that? I would imagine a judge with any sense would crush that little loop hole in about 3 seconds, unless I guess mafia pressured by the Premier or something.
