So odd that the Sabres would be willing to part with that for Necas. The Canes have been trying to trade him since the Summer of 2022. The guy has averaged 58 points over the past 4 seasons; he's a second line centre at best and I'm not sure he's even been playing centre for the Canes.
Don't get the interest for this guy.

That does seem like a lot for Necas. Would be a great move for Carolina. They are such a smart organization. Always bringing in young talent.

I think a top 10 pick for Andersson is a great trade for the Flames.

Seravelli says that it is NJ that is offering #10 OA for Necas.

Interesting to know there is a possible willingness for Buffalo and/or New Jersey to move their first round pick. Too bad it looks like it’s for a forward as I don’t think the flames have a forward that could return that. Really only Andersson could potentially do that. I wonder if either of them would be interested in Andersson for their pick. They both could potentially use another top four defenceman.

I think Toronto gets more than Andersson for Marner, for sure.
Flames snag one of Lindstrom, Helenius, or Catton and Iginla and then dive into the UFA pool for a shorter-term veteran on D to help the younger defencemen.
Leaving Toronto out of it also makes it easy:
To Utah: Rasmus Andersson, 28th or 41st overall
To Calgary: 6th overall

Why would Calgary have to trade more in one scenario than the other to get the same pick?

Kakko is a right-handed shot, a necessity for the Kings to add. He is also great defensively and is physical on the forecheck. General manager Rob Blake stated at head coach Jim Hiller’s introductory press conference that the team needed more offense without sacrificing the defense. His rant also included how he believed the team needed to be more physical in the offensive zone. He stated how it is easy to get within five feet of the crease, but getting to two or three feet is incredibly difficult. Kakko would fill this criteria, and it would be at an affordable price.
|
Hockey Writers are suggesting that a 2nd and a 4th would be an approximated return for Kakko and that the Kings should do it. Given that the Flames only have two right handed shots in their likely forward group I would do a trade like that all day long.
Dallas 2nd and Vegas 3rd might get it done. See if you can recoup one or both of those picks in a Mangiapane deadline deal and call it a day.

For posterity sake. Kakko is a left shot right wing.

Well given that the Hockey Writers apparently don’t know which way he shoots and I never looked it up, take that article and my comments for what that level awareness warrants them being taken for
Nonetheless I do like the idea of getting Kakko on the cheap, even if he does not address a right hand shot deficiency up front

To be fair, it does say "part of a deal," not necessarily that it's 10 straight up for Necas.

I’m not a huge Necas fan myself. I feel like Rasmus Andersson + Dallas 2nd should be able to net a top 7 pick if this is the case?

Necas seems to be the flavour of the month. Happens with a couple players every year. I’m not opposed to him and think in a weak year #10 is fair, but the rumour mill and hype around him seems overblown. Much rather have Marner any day of the week.

I wonder what the Devils will have to add? Also kinda hope the trade goes through and the Devils immediately sign Necas and then the Flames sign Mercer to a one year 4.57 million dollar contract and see if they can pick him up for a 2nd round pick. Not clear to me how the Devils could sign Necas for what he wants, 5 other players and Mercer for 4.57 million.

Unfortunately- Flames are ineligible to make any offer sheets at the moment.

I would think Carolina has to add to get the #10. So maybe there's a bigger swap including a cap dump from NJ. The Canes are probably losing Sjei and Pesce, so maybe they take on Marino or Siegenthaler.

It would be silly to offer sheet anyone though. Just take the 18-year-old.

I don’t think Mercer leaves Jersey for $4.5M but you wouldn’t give up a 2025 2nd for Mercer?

Interesting rumours around multiple teams willing to move firsts for roster players as they’re ready to compete now:
1. NJD
2. Buffalo
3. Detroit
4. Ottawa - more inclined to keep it now
5. STL
6. VGK
What makes it more interesting is the number of 1st round picks that moved last year was 0 which was the first time in almost a decade.
7 first round picks moved in 2022
9 first round picks moved in 2021
The sense is that once Anaheims 3rd overall pick is in, everything could open up if teams go off the board early or a run of forwards or defenseman takes place.
I know Frank keeps saying the Flames are looking to move up from 9th but I’ve heard they’re more interested in moving up from 28 still as they would prefer 2 picks in top 15.
