Just don't update to 1.2 then...I haven't tested it myself (squishy wizards have no need for health or defence), but I've heard constant comments that the resistance formula blew up...Atronachs take damage from their element despite 100% resistance
i'm playing a torrented copy so no worrying about updating. my plan was and still is to finish my first playthrough on this copy then buy the Steam version after they have the mod tools out for it. i've learned better than to buy Bethesda games at release, as far as i'm concerned anything they release is in a beta state for a few months until they patch things up sufficiently
well i made the mistake of accidentally using the storm shout while in town. after a few guards were killed by lightning my bounty was quite high. mental note not to do that again
Yeah that thing is worthless, I used it on a quest where I had someone with me and we encountered a dragon so I thought I'd use it, the lightning almost never hit the dragon and the girl with me didn't even stop crouching like they usually do after the battle ends and they hit zero health, she crawled all the way home I guess.

what's the point in leveling alchemy? you can find potions in any cave or buy them for fairly cheap. hell if you level up enchanting and smithing all the way, you won't even need potions by that point

If it's anything like Smithing, Enchantment, or Oblivion Alchemy, you can make much, much more powerful stuff on your own than you can buy at shops.
Also if you use poisons a lot, you can stack a "type" of poison and "favorite" it so you just have to hit a key to re-apply the poison in mid-battle. It's hard to get enough of one type of poison from a merchant to make that worthwhile.

i realize this, but to make my final armor set and weapon i just bought a single smithing and enchanting potion, and i already feel like a god now since nothing can touch me. i'm not sure how maxing alchemy to make me even more powerful would have any effect
