I left Stone out from my list because there are potential cap implications.. not because I don't think he isnt a servicable 6/7 who can play minutes. If Treliving can make it work, then I would have no issues keeping him.

It's not a bid process, it's a discussion process. Information is power. The more teams Dorion can have serious talks with, the higher the price goes. It's a question of who is serious enough to pull the trigger...BT isn't only assessing Dorion in the lowest price he could pay, but he's probably even more interested in what Poile, Chevy, etc. are legitimately willing to offer.
Big question re: Frolik: Does anyone know when he had to submit his 10 team list?
It looks like it's the same clause through the term of the deal - would he have submitted it upon signing, or does he have the opportunity every year to revise? I would guess that every summer maybe he has the opportunity to make changes (wouldn't be surprised if the number of changes he can make is limited)? Or perhaps it's a Dec. 31 deadline so a player knows how that season is playing out?
The Sens made the playoffs in the season before he signed initially...if the list is unchanged from then there is no guarantee Ottawa is on it.
However, I think all of the talk about 'helping Ottawa reach the floor' is a bit silly. No team has ever had trouble reaching the floor...there is always someone willing to pay a quality asset to dump a bad deal. Ottawa would be better off taking Lucic and Poolparty for a 4th rounder in the summer.
Frolik's return wouldn't be huge, but I bet Ottawa would want to flip Frolik again (salary retained for both years). Or I suppose he is at least a good asset to flip at next year's deadline.
But it's all moot if Ott is on his NTC.

I understand that a huge part of the appeal to adding Stone is having him for this playoff run but prices are getting high. I’m starting to lean towards taking a run at him in free agency and going after Hayes for this season.

For the record the average ice thickness in today's NHL arenas is roughly 3/4 of an inch.

I have a hard time understanding why a player in Stone's position would want to negotiate a contract extension with any team before getting traded at the deadline. Wouldn't he want to try out the new city/team/coach before signing long term and at a potential discount to what he could get on the open market? It's not like he cares if the Senators get an extra draft pick.
Also, these picks that are conditional on signing with the new team seem like a huge liability when the negotiation actually happens leading up to July 1st. It's tough to justify signing a player for market value when you have to give up a pick, and other comparable UFAs are available on July 1st without the extra cost.
For these two reasons I don't think the Flames strategy of getting both a rental and a long term piece at the deadline is viable. Better off to get a cheaper rental at the deadline and wait for July 1st if you really want to sign a guy like Stone.

Why would Calgary want Ceci? Another RD? He has potential but he doesn't really fill a positional need with Brodie, Hamonic, Andersson, Stone, and Prout already there.

As a Canadian, I'm personally offended that they don't measure ice thickness in metric. Bettman hates Canada!

It’s not the thickness of the rink that matters it’s how you use it.

I believe in the Jays.

I wonder how much money we would save on signing Stone now, versus being the highest bidder in the summer. It's hard to imagine the difference is worth all of those assets.

I'm wondering if Andersson is on the way out and BT wants another RD.

But why settle for a Stanley Cup next season when you can have one this season AND next season ( and the following season... and so on)

...you could be onto something. Perhaps Andersson goes one way and Ceci comes back the other as part of a Stone trade. Because at this point, I'm pretty sure Ottawa would be happy to get anything for Ceci, but he could really benefit from a change of scenery. Could look good on a third pair.

According to a close inside source of the flames.. the Twitter post from reddit does not specify the source, but suggests
we are involved in two big trades involving both Stone and Hayes. Buckle up guys. This is shaping up to be an insane 20 hours.

Wasn't that the guy who got banned from Reddit Hockey for posting fake rumours about William Nylander? Or am I thinking of someone else?
