I wouldn't want Richards even if the Kings retain salary. After reading the report of Lombardi telling Richards they won't buy him out with their compliance buy out as long as Richards commits to coming back in shape. Then for Richards to show up to camp out of shape. To me that's a red flag, you're a professional athlete, you have one job to do in the offseason, your organization gave you a second chance, and you couldn't even do the one thing they ask of you. Don't need this type of work ethic near our team.

That alert is bunk, it cites Eric Francis as the source.
Eric Francis is terrible, and he took it to another level earlier this season when he took pretty harsh personal shots at Dennis Wideman for no reason other then him being paid what he gets. At that point he should have been removed from ever being a "analyst" for the Flames, not sure how he remains on Sportsnet, The Sun and 960 its a joke.
Haha ya that's why I threw in the for cereal. I thought I've seen it here used as being sarcastic.

Link?
I heard the story he was asked to get in shape over the summer, but I thought he actually did...

4th line center who gets paid too much for his role abdndigned long term. Richards has the potential playoffs experience to at least help this team make it going forward. Stajan just is what he is, if this can getvus out of the Engelland contract, they should do it.
Why not? Because Richards' contract is 2 years longer than Stajan's, also has a cap hit of about $2.65M more and he's NOT $2.65M better than Stajan anymore.
And who's to say Richards isn't also what he is at this point, which is only BARELY better that Stajan on the ice. Even on this Flames team, Richards would realistically only be the 4th line centre and at almost $6 million dollars.

Here's a link where he said he did. Reading between the lines it's also apparent that Lombardi was really concerned, that Richards was miffed at being a 4th liner, and that his usual workout regime wasn't exactly tough. So even if he put in more work in the summer, was it enough to catch up, and did he m,aintain that work ethic?
Why is this being re-kindled over a regurgitation from Eric Francis. The guy is about a week late to this party and he's very quickly losing relevance (if he hasn't already).

lost in all of this discussion is the basic fact that Richards is not a good hockey player anymore
I'd honestly rather have a guy like Jooris than Richards based on hockey ability alone
Richards lacks the speed to be able to keep up with the young Flames team. Big issue. The excitement comes from the prospect of maximising our biggest asset (cap space) to acquire young players, prospects or picks who will improve the team. If Richards were to get back to form it would be a pure bonus (because let's face it: unlikely to happen):
The only reason it's still being talked about is because the situation still exists. The Kings still have Richards and other teams could still trade for him.
For people saying it isn't worth the risk, it would depend on what the reward would be. If the kings said they'd give us Toffoli, Pearson and 2 first round picks if we took Richards and gave them Stajan, would you still say no because it isn't worth the risk? I know that would never happen but it depends on how desperate the kings get in the next couple of weeks. If they're in a position to make another trade that benefits them now but need to get rid of Richards' contract then they might be more willing to sacrifice their future to do so.
Without knowing exactly what they're willing to give up, you can't say it isn't worth it. If they think they're getting rid of that for anything less than a first rounder though, they're dreaming.

why would richards have to play on the flames couldn't he be sent down to addy? which would be more likely as he isn't an upgrade on anybody on our team.

I don't want Richards and his stupid contract for anything.
Just a quick question but could we trade for him and then place him on waivers and send him to Addy if he cleared?
Costly I know but if we pick up some assets in the trade is it worth it??
