The PS2 was $600 at launch. The 360 was $500 at launch. The PS3 was $600 at launch. The Wii was $279
The table is wrong.

PS2 was $299 in U.S. according to Gamespot.
Have a feeling we got screwed in Canada due to bundling and the terrible exchange rate at the time.
http://www.gamespot.com/news/sony-an...-price-2568701
Searching online seems to show that the Canada launch price was $450, so that makes more sense.

Maybe those are US prices.

I do, but the amount of data that would be required is really quite trivial if you are in that situation of just needing to activate.

I agree with you, but it is a possible workaround for people in temporary outages.

Interesting, I didn't know that. I know with T-Mobile, I had no issues tethering when I was down there.

And that's only one case where the 24-hour online check is complete BS, lots of rural residents where broadband isn't available or very intermittent would be affected. Hell in cities sometimes internet outages can last for several days if it's a major line cut (or a building fire at a major hub like Shaw)
I just don't see how you can defend this practice when the customer sees zero benefit from it, it's all about Microsoft putting arbitrary limits on products you legally own

Exactly, video games (and movies) are what you do when you don't have internet. No TV / no cable = "well at least I still have gaming".

I'm not gonna judge - just trying to link stuff as I find it to give CPer's the best chance to get what they want.

I just caved and did a pre-buy from Best Buy. Not sure if any of the current launch titles appeal to me as I mostly play sports games on my PS3 but those will come out shortly after launch. Worst case scenario, I'm sure I'll be able to make a little money selling to the parents of spoiled kids looking for a Christmas gift.
I do wish it had full backwards compatability so that I could move my PS3 into a bedroom and just use it as a Bluray and streaming centre. I'm a little disapointed at now having to pay for online multiplayer, but I understand why they need to move to that system. Hopefully they continue to include the current perks and PS+ customers get for players who subscribe. Other than that I'm happy with how it looks to be shaping up, it blows the new Xbox out of the water and I'm happy to keep my brand loyalty.

Sorry if I have missed this. But how does the PS4 work for remotes? Are they still sticking with Bluetooth only? I really don't want to shell out $80 for a Harmony remote converter.

I can't see it changing, Harmony has bluetooth remotes now (expensive), or you can get the extender cheaper from amazon.com, I got mine for cheaper from Crutchfield I think.

The AMD APU is a custom chip, so there might be potential yield/shortage issues with it. Probably not, but possible.

The latest Harmony remotes are awful though. The Harmony One is still the one to get, if you can find it for sale anywhere.

Really? They look kind of nice, better buttons anyway. I haven't used one tho, what makes them suck?

Quality issues all over the place. Buttons failures, battery connection problems, dying displays not to mention a drop in the limit of supported devices. My old Harmony 550 supported 12 devices than the current equivalent 650 and 700 only support five and six devices respectively.
