Paulie is just making things up. If I remember right the main knock on him as the 1st overall was that he was a safe pick and might not have true #1 upside. If The Flames can swing him for a late 1st and decent prospect I'd be happy with it.

Again people are acting desperate for anything.
Just like wanting to trade for Cozens boat anchor contract because he’s big. A butter soft player and people want to trade our best trade chip for him.

Fair, but you could also look at a guy like Bennett who slid in his draft and he’s certainly not the only example. Did Bennett slide because of ‘character issues’ or is it more accurate to say he slid because the GM’s and scouts thought he simply wouldn’t be as good as those picked ahead of him despite what the majority of hockey journalists/fans/media thought. Given the mix at the top of this years draft it seems likely someone is going to slide, in the eyes of some, this year as well.
I just don’t think it’s all that insightful or wise to say a guy has character issues when, really, the vast majority people on this forum don’t know what they don’t know.

I also believe Wright slipping also had to do with him, basically, missing a full year of competitive hockey during COVID. A lot of his peers found ice elsewhere where he sat tight thinking the OHL was coming back, if I recall correctly.

Seeing Wright's comments prior to the draft, coupled with him then falling a few spots, it's not hard to surmise character issues. Maybe he's grown since then, maybe not.

Frank on 960 this morning talking Cozens, says the Flames have asked about him. Says the Sabres aren't interested in futures which makes this harder for the Flames.
Krebs is brought up, but Frank suggests thats less of an option (less interest).

Ridley Grieg signed a 4 x $3.25MM. I think that might be a good Zary comparable for dollars if they want to bridge. Although, the Flames would have to go 3 years to not take Zary straight to UFA.

My read is that they don't want picks and anyone we'd want to trade (or they may want) isn't approving a move. Thus the "harder" part IMO

I would rather take a chance on a Shane Pinto 3.75 for next year, and he still has upside. Cozens has peaked and is signed long term.
Worst case Pinto is a 3rd liner and we get to sign him to a deal that pays him like 1.

Not sure that's true that he'd be second round or later.
One of only 10 guys to play an NHL game from that draft.
Guys like Sandin-Pellika, Bonk, Perreault, Molendyk, Musty and Ritchie and Cristall might move ahead of him.
But guys like Willander, But, Wood, and maybe even Simashev might drop below him.
His AHL production is right in line with guys taken around him in that draft...
Dvorsky: 0.78 P/GP
Nadeau: 0.67 P/GP
Danielson: 0.58 P/GP
Honzek: 0.58 P/GP
Sale: 0.57 P/GP
So not amazing production, but it's hard to produce in the AHL as a 20 year old.

Sharangovich is an interesting potential swap if the Sabres like his game. Barrie and Kuzmenko are going to end the year on the Flames lol

Pinto is actually so much better than Cozens to target. 52.2% CF and only 35% ozone starts and he is 52% on faceoffs. Craig is really big on faceoffs.

In the article I posted the main shifts are
- Perreault from 23 to 9 (most lists had him in that 9-12 range ahead of the draft. I further do wonder if there were concerns about a Canadian team signing him. I just find it funny he somehow fell to NYR)
- ASP from 17 to 11
- Ritchie from 27 to 13
- Edstrom from 32 to 14 (I would still take Honzek over him)
- Bonk from 22 to 16 (I would still take Honzek over him)
- Rehkopf from 50 to 17
- Brindely from 34 to 20
Players that drop in the rankings to after Honzek
- Yager from 14 to 22
- Wood from 15 to 27
So that's how it shakes out.
And honestly with all those guys, there's not a lot of difference between them at this stage. I would say the guys, for me, that I would clearly draft ahead of Honzek now woud be ASP, Ritchie and Perreault (ignoring any signability issues).

Conroy wanting to push for the playoffs is troubling to me. F.....we aren't beating Vegas or any of the top 4 teams in a 7 game series (1% chance tops).
Buffalo not wanting futures for Cozens is good for us if Conroy and Edwards wasn't pushing for the playoffs...... We really need a losing streak badly here.
Rasmus Andersson + Kadri + Henry Mews???
for
Elias Pettersson
Sharangovich + Miromanov + Pospisil
for
Cozens
Vladar for anyone's 3rd
Rooney, Kuzmenko, Barrie for any low pick we can get.

Looks like people are taking to speaking in absolutes today without actually knowing anything other than their best guess.
I don’t think any of us know what the Flames would want for Honzek but saying he’s untradable seems to be laying it on a little thick. That would be like St.Louis saying Dalibor Dvorsky is untradablable or Utah with Daniel But. Truthfully, we have no idea.
Essentially what you’re saying is that there is no other prospect the Flames would consider trading Honzek for. If Utah offered Tij Iginla for Honzek, you think Conroy would say no? I would find that hard to believe.
