The only one I say no to for the Flames is the Coleman trade; 30 percent and a retention slot used up for multiple years for a 2 time cup champ who had a career year reg season just last year should also land a prospect/roster player. The fact that we would be giving Dallas their hometown guy as well makes me feel like we’d be getting the shorter end of the stick on that trade proposal.

Out of the rumors I would love for us to execute trades for Wright and cozens. Two Canadian centres with high upside.
Cozens for Andersson
Wright for lower of NJ or our remaining 1st and honzek
Then retention slot to trade Coleman. I still can't believe someone would trade for kadri.

I’m skeptical.
Character issues? How on earth would any of us know this? Do you know someone on the Kraken? Is that just one persons account? Have you heard about ‘character issues’ from several people who have first hand knowledge/experience?

Stromgren would have to be a real improvement. Basha, Battaglia, Klapka, Kerins but only for a better center, and most other guys I would absolutely entertain in trading for a center and have spoken out for frequently now in favour of. We only have so many wing positions with three of the eight positions locked up for at least three more years.
We have four picks in the top two rounds this year good chance one is a winger. Especially since most good centres are taken in the first round.
To the original point it would take a massive overpayment to get Honzek.
|
There it is! ‘Massive overpayment’. Love it.
Any trade for Honzek simply can not be fair or even better than what the Flames consider Honzek to be. Any trade for Honzek must include a top 10 pick, preferably top 5, or multiple first round picks, or an established superstar under the age of 24. Otherwise, any other team and their ‘fair and reasonable offers’ can piss off.
Did the term ‘massive overpayment’ originate from ‘The Art of the Deal’. Seems kinda Trumpian.

We really don't know what the Flames consider Honzek to be.
I don't think he's improved his lot since being drafted, though it hasn't decreased either.
But he's certainly not worth a top 5 pick or an established superstar under the age of 24.

3 teams passed a right shot C something everyone looks for. Even Utah took Cooley who is tracking better. Now the team that drafted him wants to dump him before he’s 22?
Again people are acting desperate for anything.
Just like wanting to trade for Cozens boat anchor contract because he’s big. A butter soft player and people want to trade our best trade chip for him.

Hes got 7 fights in his career already including guys like Frederic and Hathaway. Idk why you think he’s “butter soft”

That’s great how did he do?
He’s soft to me. Not some power forward. When I have to look at the game log to see if he played it’s not a good look.

Honzek probably goes lower in a re-draft at this point…

Injuries have derailed his progression. Is he injured again? Only 24 games played in the minors.
He needs to play a lot more. He has raw skill.

2nd round for sure or later but that would be the case for several 1st round picks with the benefit of hindsight.

This morning on the 32 Thoughts podcast, Friedman hints that Buffalo has been scouting Detroit with the thought that Cozens could be in play there and at one point it was thought to be close.

They have won 5 in a row since they fired the coach. Was probably a shake up before.
Hopefully they keep streaking and pass us in the standings.

3 teams is not a lot. And they didn't necessarily pass on him in so much as they just liked someone else better.

I wouldn't say 2nd round for sure or later. That's a bit much.
This was from Oct of this year, and the article puts him at him at 21.

Honzek is one of only 10 players from that draft who has played actual NHL games already and is, by all accounts, playing well in the AHL for a first season. He's had some injury issues, which slowed his development, but he seems to be back on track and progressing well as one of the youngest players in the AHL.
Looking at the 2023 draft and the players drafted around him and after him, not sure how you can say he'd fall to the second round in a re-draft, much less fall further than that.
It's early, give the kid time. This is why re-drafts aren't done a year and a half after the fact.

The Honzek opinions are funny. Start of camp, he's a bust.
Plays awesome, makes the team. Impresses everyone.
Gets hurt, goes to AHL.
Bust again.

He's played in every Wranglers game since November 5th. Reason why it's only 24 games is because he was with the Flames for October and spent a couple of weeks with that UBI as well before going down to the A.

There is just zero chance he is worth a top 5 pick etc. I don’t think he would go in the second round or later in a re-draft but later in the 1st for sure. I think Estrada hated that pick from day one lol.

Honzek is untradable.
He hasn't shown anything yet but the mix of size and skill is incredibly appealing. No one will give you what hes worth to the Flames.
