I'm just curious what's "moderately" healthy about fruit? It's entirely healthy. There is no way people are getting fat by having too many pieces of fruit...

I dunno I would just use "moderately healthy" as in anything that's healthy in moderation. Like eggs and cheese and nuts and red meat -- fruits do still have a lot of (natural) sugar in them so you can overdo them, especially if not balanced with vegetables. They're a superb replacement for artificial and processed sugar things in a diet.

Basically the only things that are "entirely healthy" (i.e. you can eat as much as you want with no repercussions) are unseasoned vegetables and water, lol.

Right, but that's not the same thing as sucralose. Like that "extra apple" or whatever is really not a concern for probably 99% of people. I'm not saying drink a ton of juice or having strawberries with whipped cream or whatever. I'm just talking pure, raw fruit here.

Sucralose is an artificial sweetener. Do you mean sucrose? Fruit is fructose, but that's beside the point. Not all fruit is equal, with some having a much higher concentration of sugar, and thus being high on the Glycemic Index.

If only 1% of the population had T1 or T2 diabetes, then sure, it's not a concern for 99% of people. Sadly, I believe the number is a wee bit higher.

Fruit contains fiber which slows the rate of absorption and increases satiation. It also pushes it through the digestive system. The combination of these factors makes it fairly self limiting from a diet perspective and can in most situations is healthy to say you can eat all you want.

Juice on the other hand is just soda with better branding.

If people only ate fruit as their source of sugar diabetes likely isn’t an issue.

I've been blown away recently how often you have to preface #### with "It depends".

As the saying goes in many circles, "You idiot proof things and they create better idiots."

The amount of people who think smoothies are healthy because fruit... Or chicken ranch salad because lettuce and avocado... My cocktail is better than your beer because it has real fruit in it...

For a lot of people fruit is the only "healthy" thing they eat (and maybe potatoes and fried onions in the 'vegetable' category). In those cases I don't know that it's appropriate to call fruit a healthy choice...it's just not an unhealthy choice.

Exactly, 'healthy' choices are contextual. I know, because I lived it. "I need to eat healthier." Well, 'healthy' requires the context of what isn't healthy about you now or what you're looking to address. I thought fruit was a healthy choice. Well, it turns out it isn't doing you any favours if you have a sweet tooth and are just eating mediocre high calorie, low-satiety crap the rest of the time; you're better off not eating it at all at that point, adding it was a net negative.

This and the fact many people run around with out of context cliff notes.

I had some idiot tell me that chocolate milk has no added sugar because calcium is naturally sweet.

I had another say that diet pop was great for diets because zero calories.

Another calorie counted, but I'm pretty sure he's on his way to some horrific health issues down the line such as ulcers, high blood pressure etc. because it's feast or famine and starvation (up to 18 hours of "intermittent fasting") prior to a night of insane boozing and zero calorie coffee.

Like, you can't sit down and drill everything down to calorie count and sugar/fat/carb yes/no. It goes beyond that. But no one has the patience.

It's everything in moderation, no one size fits all.

"I'm pretty sure if I ate only any superfood, I wouldn't turn super or healthy, I'd get diarrhea."

Unless he's doing a whole lot of other sh-t you're not telling us, I don't think he's headed down the path you think. I mean, that's what I do (with the exception of the 'insane boozing'). 16-18 hours fasted with only water and a cup of black coffee first thing the morning, then 6-8 hour eating window. In that time, I need to take in at least 150 grams of protein, so I have a 52g protein shake post-workout and 5 grams of creatine. I'll have a second protein shake if I don't hit my protein goals through my meals before 8 PM.

My RHR is in the high 50s / low 60s, and my BP is textbook (I get my BP checked and regular blood tests as part of my UC treatment). I'm 37, 5'10", and ~190 lbs (which I'll cut down to about 175 lbs closer to the end of spring).

A night of insane boozing isn't good for anybody, but I don't think the other things he is doing otherwise are of any concern on their own.

If you radically curtail your sugar intake in your daily diet then you can add sugar to your blueberries and incredibly rich cream and still claim moderation. FYI an excess of blueberries will make you poop purple.
