Organization was saved from its own ineptitude by a couple of draft envelopes.

You guys realize this was pretty much the plan with him right and the three year deal helps you be able to waive him and bring him up?

LOL.
Anything you can do to justify a bad decision. I'm pretty sure nobody was itching to claim Josh Brown off waivers today, or any other day for that matter.

You're going to have to explain that. I've never heard a three year one-way contract being used this way.

Agree this is it. He should be shouting at his coaches and really management. They’ve utterly wasted his talent. In a better organization he’s been to the finals a few times over and maybe won a couple by now.

He’s a tweener, so you give him the extra years and a GM is then having to consider whether he wants to spend three years of his owners money on a guy like that. If it’s just a single year and you are a bit interested you claim him, there’s no real commitment.

Surprised they would allow that to be released. The room should be private.

Nah, the Oilers would've very easily had the ability to ask to have that edited in some form, if not completely out, in the final copy. They chose not to.

Sure...I'm not convinced why you think that's a good thing. Tweeners are a some a dozen. You don't need to commit (valuable) cap space as a so called contender for fear of losing a tweener.

Except once you bury him he doesn’t cost you anything on your cap because you signed him for a million, or very little, just your owners cash. So you have a guy you think you can move up and down pretty easily because the extra years make it harder for another GM to claim.
I should put out a disclaimer here, I don’t think he’s good, and likely a one year deal might have accomplished the same thing but what I understand of the extra years is to allow this movement up and down easier. I freely admit it’s a debatable point.

There's just no admitting, ####, we made a mistake, or god that was dumb. For whatever reason, it's just not possible.
