The drone controversy, sure.
But Herdman leaving the country ties up a lot of loose ends for the CSA.

A) CSA hired him to be the men's coach abruptly after Zambrano didn't roll over for direction from the CSA. CSA took a long time to find and hire Zambrano and the didn't want another long embarrassing search.
Herdman did them a big favour to take the job overnight.

B)As a result Herdman has carte blanche with the CSA. Nevermind the CSA didn't really care, as usual they had their own internal spats that had nothing to do with the national team or soccer.

Did he use drones? Probably. Did many or most in the CSA know? Probably or if they didn't they probably where they should've known but didnt bother.
With the systematic corruption in the CSA, and Herdman having a lot of pull. That sort of conduct spills to the women's game and probably junior teams as well; again, a limp wristed CSA ignoring or avoid thr subject

There is no doubt in the lead up as underdogs, with details finally coming to light under the now unavoidable spotlight (for the CSA) of WCQ, he used the fact that the CSA was against the team as well, given all the finding issues and political bs. He knew a lot of those CSA transgressions being g part of the program for a decade.

C) Paris happens and they get caught on the second biggest stage. Herdman with a very generic statement at the time, and the CSA in scramble mode, first for immediate scapegoats, then to appear shocked, and surprised, while also appearing to find someone friendly to them to get an independent review.

D) The review does little outside of a lot of corporate HR-based recommendations, confirms the immediate scapegoats from July, and everyone else in the CSA is covered and comes out scot free. They don't even interview Herdman, becuase of what he could reveal about the CSA.

In trade for him not speaking to this review, he likely agrees to basically leave the country. It's clear from TFC he's not a day to day club coach, but also, TFC doesn't need or want this cloud hanging over them.

I could be wearing a tinfoil hat, but with all the garbage at the CSA over the years, I don't think I am far off. He has dirt on the CSA that would get aot of people in trouble...this way, Preistman and a couple others take the entire brunt of 10+ years of engaging in these activities. If he keeps his mouth shut and quietly eaves the country, he gets to keep his reputation in tact.

Related but as an aside, I think both Blue and Marsch last until the WC (Blue may not bother), and then soccer in this country is in trouble again becuase its organization continues with it's arrogance and disregard for anything except serving itself.

Him leaving so abruptly makes you think all the tin foil things.

What's worse, is your last sentence. You are right.

We have a good thing going, but after the WC it'll go back to normal. CPL probably folds.

From The Athletic

Quote:
Alphonso Davies, the Bayern Munich defender and Canadian national team captain, has been banned from driving for one month after being found driving under the influence of alcohol.

Davies, 24, was stopped by police in Munich in the early hours of Thursday morning and registered a positive result when asked by officers to take a breathalyzer test. He was not arrested and a friend then drove the car home.
Quote:
A source with understanding of the situation, who wasn’t authorised to speak publicly on the matter, told The Athletic Davies registered an output of 0.6 grams of alcohol per litre. The legal limit in Germany is 0.5 grams with 0.8 grams the bar for a criminal offence to have taken place.
Not an egregious error, likely 1-2 drinks. But like come on dude, you are a gazillionaire and supposed to be a leader. Hire a goddam limo to chauffer you around.

It’s worse. Buddy who drove the car home should have been driving the whole time.

That happens because “I’m fine”.

Some notes:

Buchanan not happy at Inter. Not a surprise, even when he transferred there, they are a stacked team and it was hard for him to crack the lineup. Most players need to play, nevermind after his broken leg. Probably not the best choice, as even though it's an ego bump to get a top club to have interest in you, he's probably been set back a bit.

Another year, another year of the coach of our MNT personally having to glad hand to try and fundraise funds so the MNT can hold standard, proper, camps. Embarrassing.

No need to go all into this again, but after the WC is a memory in 19 months, where does the legacy of those games stand?

Corbeanu on his way to TFC. At least getting playing time should be easy.

Too bad about Tajon. I love that player.

Embarrassing that CSA is still in this state financially.

Reports in Spain this morning are liking Alphonso Davies heavily with a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid.

With Madrid's faltering form, they are likely panicking and will look to shake things up.

Looks like Bayern Munich have come to an agreement with Davies for him to say. £242,000 a week until June 30, 2030.

Kone needs minutes, Buchanan needs minutes (hopefully he can get a loan out)

Davies staying put I think is best for Canada. He's a major piece to how Kompany wants that Bayern squad to play. But wow did his agent play the game well.

Davies out 4-6 weeks as per The Athletic. More torn muscles.

Is he prone to it, or is it just because he's so high profile and we hear about him all the time it seems that way?

I do wonder about all of the pressing that is en vogue right now. There’s a lot of sprinting but also twisting and sudden movements. Postecoglu at spurs was discussing these sorts of injuries the other day.

Germans are very cautious, their medical reports are very matter of fact.
But yes Davies' asset, especially to Bayern, is his speed, particularly going up the field to create space and gaps for him and the Bayern midfield and then having the ability to get back in position to shut down. As such, he's expected to utilize that asset at every available moment, and that's lead, after years to these types of injuries.

Kone, like Buchanan, got dazzled by a big club having interest in them. But a lot of quality players on hand, a lot of competition, and inevitable club politics means just getting the foot in the door isn't a guarantee of anything, even if you perform at the level you did to be attracted to them.

David would be wise to take heed with his next move. Davies may have dodged a bullet as well by not moving to Madrid just yet.

The focus for all the players should be on the next 18 months and the once in a career home World Cup. Their individual profile as club players will be largely judged on that.

Seeing the failed experiement (so far) with Mbappe going to Madrid, I think Davies is wise to stay put with Bayern

Canada Soccer published an organizational update today. The financial update is the only one with hard numbers; $4.0 million deficit in 2024, anticipated deficit of $2.4 million in 2025, anticipated surplus in 2026 (nothing backing that statement up). Philanthropy will continue to be a major source of funding. I'd contribute $150 against that deficit if I'd have the ability to get a customized away shirt but no dice I guess.

Over to you for the obligatory rant, browna.

I imagine the anticipated surplus is based on World Cup participation/prize money and whatever other revenue.
