Drug possession charges against Broncos DT Marcus Thomas have been dropped. There's some welcome news. He still needs to stear clear of those type of people.

Besides, Everett can now apply for long-term disability benefits through the NFL - $224K per year for the span of his injury (the rest of his life, potentially) which he wouldnt have been able to do while still on the roster. That, combined with his book deal and the fact that his medical expenses are covered doesnt leave him short on cash.

By being released, Everett can now pursue benefits that will ensure his financial stability.
Starting today, he can apply for a long-term disability payment of $224,000 a year over the life span of his injury. An injured player is not eligible for this benefit while he’s on an active roster.

That vital part seems left out of the TSN article.

Yeah, the Bills did consult with the league as to what would be the best situation for Everrett. Heartless is not a way to describe him being cut. It's the best bussiness descision for all parties.

I was under the assumption that he made more than $250k, and that he wouldn't receive that amount with the NFL's contract structure. I guess my inexperience with the workings of the inner-NFL shows big time here.
Reading Pagal's link, it looks like the Bills took care of him as much as they could, but couldn't have him on the roster this season. Kudoes to them.
I stand corrected.

Owners could opt out of CBA agreement as early as Tuesday.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3399645
Quote:
One management source called it a "high likelihood" that the owners will exercise their option to terminate the agreement, which will trigger a number of alternatives, including a potential work stoppage by 2011. Another source said "be prepared" for the action, although it was "not a 100 percent proposition yet."
An NFL Players Association source said, "We expect it to happen.
|
Quote:
The decision to exercise the option is not expected to have any significant impact on the next two seasons, 2008 and 2009.
|
Quote:
However, by opting out of the agreement that was struck on March 9, 2006, the NFL would play 2010 without a salary cap, unrestricted free agency for players would be increased from four years to six years and the orderly selection of college players in the annual draft would not exist after 2011. These "poison pills" are designed to motivate both the owners and the union to work toward a new collective bargaining agreement.

^^It was reported last week that it was inevitable. I really hope things get cleaned up in the next two years. I don't think I could live through an NFL work stoppage.

Here is Pat Kirwan's spin on a possible uncapped year.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=090...ampaign=ec0005
Quote:
The one factor fans have heard the most about is that 2010 and 2011 would be "uncapped" years. But there are three main trigger points that will go off in 2010 if there isn't a new CBA in place, and they may offset the fear of life with no salary cap. They are: 1) free agency will require six years of service (instead of four years in 2010 and five years in 2011); 2) teams will have three tags to use to restrict free agents instead of one tag, as they do now; and 3) teams that go deep in the playoffs could have some spending restrictions

By 2012 the Colts could be one of the worst teams in the league or at least not a serious contender. Manning will be four years older and past his prime. Doesn't hurt to dream though, stranger things have happened.

Saints DE Charles Grant charged with involuntary manslaughter. Its stemming from a February nightclub altercation when he was stabbed in the neck, and the whole incident resulted in the shooting death of a pregnant woman.

John Clayton on which teams would be most and least affected by a possible uncapped year in 2010.

Looks like there is finally some tangible evidence as to who killed Darrent Williams 17 months ago. I've been following this story as closely as possible and this Willie Clark gangster has been their prime suspect from early on. If he is indeed the guy, and it looks that way, it will be nice to see some justice for Darrent and his family.
