Because 1 bad goal makes the difference in a 1 goal game?

Cool. Know what makes a bigger difference? The skaters providing a giveaway and bad line change. Oh and not scoring more than one goal. Binnington was fine. Probably could have had one of those goals back, but it didn’t matter as the skaters weren’t scoring.

Because of the bad goal?!
HD chances were 12-5 for Canada...obviously it wasn't a great game all around but Canada barely gave up anything. There is no way that 1st goal should go in.
All this being said if Canada wins the next game in regulation is all even again anyway

It was a great game.
I will say anyone thinking mcFU is going to be the next dominant Canadian is dreaming.
He’s a faster Kadri. 1 on 5. 1 on 5. 1 on 5. Dumb. Great that Doughty sprung him but that dude has done nothing.

I didn't really care for the second goal either even though Crosby caused it.

The push at the end was like watching the Flames try to even up a score late.
Why does every team I watch turn into the Flames?! Even ones with 3 generational talents lol.

Canadas roster has some gaps.
The top end talent is there.
When I look at the bottom 6, the d-core (minus Makar) and the goaltending I don't see an unbeatable team... Team USA looks alot more solid top to bottom
Marchand - Bennett - Jarvis
Hagel - Cirelli - Point
Toews - Sanheim
Morrisey -Parayko
Harley - Doughty
Binnington
It just doesn't scream elite talent. Bottom 6 is close to a wash with US. I would take the US goaltending and d-core 10/10.
Canada needs to find a way to win. This goes beyond hockey right now. Some fans might want to stick their heads in the sand and ignore the geopolitics but there's obviously more going on right now.

Bedard got ragdolled at the WCs last year, they would have demolished him here. Just not a fit at all.

Why the Hell wasn't Thompson and Kuemper the goalies?
Not to mention Weeger and Bedard snubs..

Fleury would have been a good pick as it would be his last time to wear the national jersey and to erase not playing in the 2010 games. Allen would have been ironic considering he and Binnington were teammates during the Blues Stanley Cup run.

Thought I heard on Barn Burner last week that Thompson was snubbed cuz of hockey politics. Apparently Cassidy and DeBoer have issues with him from his time in Vegas.

Fans need to accept the fact that the days of Canada's domination of OUR GAME at the international level as evidenced by last night and the recent WJC tournaments are gone!

* Watching McDavid as a fan it’s clear that when he isn’t scoring he brings nothing to the table.
* Missing 2 of their top 3 puck-moving d-men hurt Canada.
* The U.S. blue-line is their strength. Jaccob Slavin is an absolute beast, and the biggest reason the Hurricanes are always in the mix. If they start giving out a trophy for best defensive d-man he’s going to win it multiple times.
* This is a fast competition. Doughty looks exposed on the back-end, and Marchand is visibly struggling with the pace. Konecny should dress in the Finland game in place of Marchand.
* Standouts in a good way: Point, Bennett, Hagel, Morrissey, Parayko.
* The lines aren’t clicking. Point needs to play with McDavid or McKinnon. Reinhart hasn’t showed anything, but I don’t know that I trust him on a match-up line. Probably need to keep him on the PP so he at least has a purpose.
* The margin of error is too small to start a goalie who lets in a bad one every game. Time to give Hill a start.

Some fans say this but there are always valid reasons that these fans seem to forget. The recent WJC was a lot of politics and combined with key players that were eligible but weren't released by their NHL teams to play.
The current team is missing key players from injuries (Makar) and again politics (Thompson). These little things make big differences on the ice and until Canada realizes these little things matter, it's not going to change.

You could look at something like Goals Saved Above Expected over at Moneypuck. Logan Thompson's stats are ungodly.
That said, you can understand why a guy like him or Mackenzie Blackwood weren't selected... these runs these guys are on started midway through this season, after they moved teams, and there's not a huge body of work to support them.
I dont like it, they certainly could have put Thompson on as 3G without much risk, and big potential reward. But I understand what happened.

With respect to Thompson, that’s quite true. I think there was a rumor of a beef between the Canadian coach and Thompson.
As most of you know, I am simply unconvinced that goaltending is a repeatable skill. Otherwise why would he go undrafted and be traded by Las Vegas for third rounders to a team where Lindgren also just posted great stats?

Congratulations, another top heavy lineup where half the game is spent waiting for one of the top 2 lines to get back out on the ice and do something.

Which is precisely why Russia should be included in something like this for those who enjoy and appreciate hockey.
It ought not be a “do we approve of your head of state” litmus test. I don’t really enjoy it anyway. I don’t cheer for people because they were born near me or where I live now; it’s so nativist.
