Was thinking about this one as well. Difference being that Fernandez was the one under the influence of alcohol and cocaine when he crashed his boat.

This is just so devastating. My heart breaks for his family.
I only hope that just as they all embraced Calgary and poured in their passion while Johnny was here (and even after), that they feel such support and love and compassion from our whole city.
Rest in peace Johnny and Matthew

You guys really need to listen to that Leslie interview on the Fan this morning.

I'll always remember that when he went to Columbus, in the behind the scenes locker room interviews, he was always wearing his original tattered Flames red undershirt underneath his Blue Jackets jersey every time. It was falling to pieces and full of holes but he kept wearing it. The red collar matched the Blue Jackets colors and he probably wore that for a huge chunk of his career.

This really ####ed me up last night and this morning.
My younger son ADORES Johnny. He got a puck from him over the glass one game and it is wrapped with tape in his room with the date, just like the players do with their goal milestone pucks.
He gave my son move of a love for the game and he was crushed when he signed somewhere else. When I told him the news this morning, I didn't want him to be surprised as school, he looked at me for a second and burst into tears. We had a good cry together and hugged it out.
My heart breaks for the family on how something that was supposed to be such and exciting event will forever be changed.
RIP Johnny and Matt and my deepest condolences to all impacted. This ####ing sucks.

God dammit fan960 is a tough listen right now.
Maybe actually hearing people talk about it makes it actually feel real. ####

So tough. These stories should have been for when he retired. So sad. His whole family is in our hearts.

What a needless, preventable tragedy.
We live in a area surround by the same small roads in much of 'rural' America - white lines painted on the edge of the pavement (zero shoulder). If it happened like I have read: a car pulling into the left lane to pass them and some drunk #######, pissed off with the guy in front following the 25mph speed limit, accelerates to fly by the other guy on right - I can see it playing out exactly like I read.
Gutted for the Gaudreau family.
