I have no problem with this as long as Elias deadline is 7pm est Wednesday. Waiting into the summer for an answer would be stupid

Has to be at the right price though.
Absolute max should be 8 x 8.5 which is in line with Meier and Horvat.
Having 25+ million tied up in Huberdeau, Kadri and Lindholm for 6 years isn't a model for success for a team that's bent on "retooling"
Still better to tear down, unless he decides to be very reasonable on the AAV.

Yup.
I had no issue with trying to keep Lindholm as long as it was below $9M.
I also have no issue with them giving him time to think about the offer.
And if talks are progressing and Lindholm wants to stay then I'm okay with not having a deadline. But honeslty it doesn't feel like he wants to stay and doesn't feel like things have progressed
But the first deadline should have been today. You tell him if he wasn't willing to commit by today then you're going to start the active trade discussions tomororow with other teams.
And then the second deadline is Wednesday at noon...and if he hasn't accepted by then you pull the trigger on whatever the best trade return is (if it includes 2023 picks)

Shaping up nicely for a Carolina deal shortly after the Flames make their pick.

So their plan is to keep the guy they didn't make playoffs with last year by paying him too much money, while also likely having a worse team this upcoming year in a vain attempt to make the playoffs?
What is this team doing? Why do they make the same mistakes over and over?

So what?
All signs point to this team sucking something fierce next season. Why keep a guy like Lindholm who isnt committed?
"Cool. Pack your crap."
- " I just said I wasnt sure..."
"Pack. Your. Crap."
In an environment where the rest of his line has already bailed? You either enthusiastically want to be here or pack yer junk.
Buh-bye.
You want a huge deal at 28? We've already got too many. Good luck.
We're going to suck. Lindholm isnt going to move the needle.

It seems like posturing to me. A bit convenient that LeBrun is out there reassuring everyone that the Flames are still in the driver's seat and won't feel pressure to make a deal for months if needed.

Once the GMS splurge July 1 I fear the offers might not be as strong with limited cap space and having to take back bad contracts to make it fit.
If you want to be on a competitive maybe decide so they can go and make moves around you since they have based the direction of the team based on you staying or going.

Mid-tier? Your expectations for the return must be pretty low if you consider him to only be mid-tier

I 100% agree but the Flames management does not. Ideally they still trade Hanifin and Toffoli for futures if Lindholm drags out. My worry is they wait for him to make a decision before doing anything

After the gut wrenching drama of Johnny and Chucky a year ago this all seems like a bunch of meh.
Lindholm's play deteriorated following their departures. Many games he was invisible.
I like the guy and really good 2 way centres are in low supply but if you can get a nice return you move him and move on.
Why all the overreactions one way or another?

This is all by design as far as I’m concerned, Lindy will be dealt and for a massive haul, almost certain of it. The flames already have a ‘bridge too far’ number with Lindy and I think it’s safe to say they’ve past it, this is just the game being played by Conny and the management team.

That reads like “you can have Lindholm, but you can’t steal him. Up your offers.”
But I could just be seeing what I want to see.
