Well educated but many with fragile/insecure egos, as evidenced by some very bitter blow ups that occur with relative frequency.

There's a distinction between being smart and wise. People with wisdom don't immerse themselves so deeply in petty arguments, and they know better than to take the words of stranger on a board that can be misinterpreted rather easily on a personal level.

I commend those regular posters that diffuse posts aimed at provoking with humour rather than engaging, and are secure enough within themselves to leave things at just agreeing to disagree, rather than seeking to justify their positions in the eyes of the forum while attacking or belittling anothers viewpoint.

There are a few of them and they may be the wisest of all of us.

Scroopy's post about merconium (sp?) really made googling things less appealing today.

This is pretty hilarious though. 2 straight pre-season games where there are new postings for days!

I was told I was being childish and shouldn't do it as I'm an owner. Tex is being told he's toxic and escalates things.

I know personally I've become more engaged in the site of late. I really haven't been in the "wars" since my health battle and had taken a step back. Lately I find it necessary to push back on the negativity (just my opinion) and make it a little less comfortable for those that seem to get off on drive bys and snide remarks.

This is supposed to be fun.

There are certainly some fans that are nothing but rainbows and puppy dog tails but I'm not one of them.

Yet this change in my posting pattern has had me questioned three times in a month on the ethics of owning a site and getting into the battles. If someone says a grade 7 student could do a better job running the team it was suggested I couldn't push back calling the guy out for saying such a silly thing.

The vax thing was completely nuts.
CalgaryPuck is a great outlet for discussions. Some people take things too seriously. Some people don't realize that their image of how things should work may not match the image of those that matter who in this case is the site owner and mods.

Honestly, I don't understand why owners and mods can't participate with the community. This site has operated efficiently for many years and it seems to be working. There will always be people who complain about mods and hold them to unreasonable standards. You can figure out a way to take away their ability to complain about the mods being posters and they'll just find something else to complain about.

I get it though. It gets tiring and after hearing it so much you'll finally reach your breaking point and start to question yourself. It's good to question the way things are to ensure the site is still a good place to be, but don't let the squeaky wheel that complains about something that isn't broken force you to make changes that don't benefit you or the site.

For my part, I have probably become less engaged on the site of late, and I think a lot of that has to do with shifts in the prevalent tone. It is not like we on the moderation team have regular discussions about these sorts of things or that it is by design, but my impression is that there has been an increased latitude and tolerance for stuff that might have been more severely reprimanded in the past. (FYI, the last suspension issued was nearly two months ago, and there have been very few infractions in that same timeframe.) It is important to take the temperature of the Board every now and then, and I think I am right that the tone has become angrier, frustrated, and with this emotional shift I suspect probably a little less rational.

And I get it. I am sure Bingo gets it too, which is why there is a lot of leeway provided right now for posters to yell and scream, and even post (harmless) nonsense, because that seems to be what some people need or want right now. But of course, the shift in tone is not universal, and there are just as many posters who become overwhelmed or wearied by the notable increase in negativity that inevitably accompanies all the yelling and screaming. This is why Bingo is pushing back. This is why I will respond from time to time, and not always as diplomatically or as politely as some think I should. But then again, there is content and there are posters who invite vitriol, or ridicule in return.

Oh, so that's what that stuff is called! Good to know, though 26 years too late to be immediately useful.

Everyone who googled it had a significantly better experience learning about it than I did.
