Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they back the truck up for Brent Sutter? I seem to remember him coaching team Canada (Juniors IIRC) and a lot of teams wanting him, then Calgary going hard after him? I could be wrong though, I'm forgetful.

This team is fragile.
I think you're overstating the impact Bennett has. They might have their head on a swivel waiting for the inevitable giveaway of the puck when he has it.

Doubt it, those are his friends in there. Probably feeling a bit sad and disappointed I am sure!

It would honestly be nice to blow out the entire front office. But that would require an owner that has any clue of what's going on with the club. We don't have that so basically we're ####ed.

Monahan, Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Giordano. The core has remained largely intact. The last time they shook it up was swapping Hamilton for Lindholm and they finished 2nd in the entire NHL that season. Other than that it’s been largely the same core for years.

I’m not advocating a trade, I’m not saying to blow it up, but maybe we should all just accept that our core is mediocre and inconsistent. We don’t know what we’re getting every night.

We’ve also seen huge decreases in quality from some veteran depth guys like Backlund. I think we need to adjust our expectations.

It’s still early, but nothing that’s happening is surprising anymore. They’re a bubble team.

Ya Sutter was coming off of a successful run as NJ coach so he would have been paid well. Devils wanted him to stay

Also Peters likely wasn’t a bargain bin hire. Hartley, Gultuzan, and Ward likely were amongst the cheapest in the league by design

Smith scored on his own net in '86.

Bennett may have Derek England levels of finish, but atleast he cuts hard to the net now and then. Mangiapane is the only other Flame who does such. This is a perimeter team.

I disagree but I see Logan Stanley making moves,as a rookie, to avoid forcheckers. No way he’s that confident with Benny out there.

It’s the small things.

My goodness. The myth of Bennett continues to grow. Doesn't he average like 2 hits a game? Teams aren't scared of Sam Bennett.

God I would have loved to have seen this team with a good coach just once before this roster’s cycle comes to a close, but that hope is gone.

Also, the forward depth is complete junk - so that’s on Tree, as is the Ward hire.
That’s the thing, it’s not just on Ward, and the players need to own it too. But Ward clearly isn’t the solution.

It’s so frustrating that Treliving was given a free mulligan after the Peters thing, and what we saw from Ward in the playoffs and he didn’t take it.

He could have went and hired Boudreau or somebody but no he decided to go with the same staff we had the last two seasons that hadn’t had an answer since the 18-19 all star break.

And I don’t care that Ward wasn’t the head coach then. When 4/5 coaches are still the same coaches then it’s the same staff and message.

Let’s give GM to Mad Mike Milbury

We will be terrible in 3 years but we will definitely have a new team

Could be fun
