Yeah I don't think it'll come down to him though, thankfully. Although the one thing that makes me pause on him is that 90% of his points this past year are primary points. That's "best in class" in the OHL draft class.

Jarvis is definitely a player to watch at the draft, he has star written all over him. Sadly, I see no chance of him being available at our pick-he will go in the early teens at worst.

Watching highlights from all these unfamiliar names and Holloway looks best to me if he drops to Calgary. Big and fast and good hands.

I want the Flames to land one of Connor Zary, Dawson Mercer, Seth Jarvis, Jack Quinn, Anton Lundell or Mavrik Bourque.

Tristen Robins reeks of the next Brayden Point to me. Hopefully can snag him in round 2.

Is there any chance Braden Schneider is still there at 19? I do believe that boy will be a stud.

If the team does aquire an earlier 1st round pick, (via Johnny trade), I wouldn't mind seeing them draft Braden Schneider, with their own pick at 19. He might be in the same mould as Regehr. ...and I like Robyn Regehr.

There's a whole class of D-men of similar ilk that will be interesting to watch at the draft-Schneider, Guhle, Barron, and Sanderson are all great skaters with size who have swung all over the rankings. Sanderson seems to be pegged to go in the top-10 or 12, as he has higher offensive upside, but plays a less physical game than the others. They all, including Schneider, have untapped offensive ability.
I will be interested where William Wallinder will go as well.

Probably, but I’m not overly keen on him. What has him jumping out to you?

Schneider's allure is that he's a big, mobile guy who likes to play a physical game-he's displayed good puck movement, good outlet pass, and good IQ. His offensive numbers don't necessarily tell the whole story, as he has potential in this area. Needs to work on his shot, but plays a good defensive game.
The bad part? In the 2010 draft, for example, Gudbranson and McIllrath were taken ahead of Cam Fowler. A few spots later, Gormley and Forbort went in the first round. All were big, physical D-men with respectable stats and skill. I don't think we need to worry about the Flames taking a D-man in the first round this year, but the team that takes a guy like Schneider will hope his skating and IQ is the difference. I think he'll be a capable, 2-way guy in the NHL.

I'm not taking a D man in this first round unless we get a second pick. I think there are going to be some steal D men available second round like William Villeneuve or Mike Benning while the first round D men seem to have just as many question marks but don't lack size. Seems like a trap to me!!

His game right now looks top 4. Solid, steady defensive play. It's that potential you see for the offensive side to evolve, which it has especially this year. Right shot, physical, great mobility and shutdown ability, and that glimpse of a power play QB as he continues to develop makes me salivate. Anyone remember '03? Guy with a similar writeup slid to the 2nd round due to questions about his offensive flair. Hind sight is a bitch.
At worst, if the offense never does materialize the way you want, he's still a top 4 guy, and that's a pretty damn fine consolation prize.

IMO Schneider's ceiling is Travis Hamonic and his floor is Luke Schenn. He is a safe pick as he will most likely play in the NHL, there are just better players and defensemen available at 19 who have higher ceilings.

Dylan Holloway is interesting. But he is definitely a player I see the Habs taking. His style of play and the fact he plays along side Caufield likely gives them plenty to like. I can see him being their Backlund of the future behind Kotkaniemi and maybe Poehling.
I wouldn't mind the Flames taking him at all but he's about #6 on my list.
Connor Zary is ahead of him but one thing I've noticed that kind of bugs me about Zary is that he has a terrible Gaidreau like habit of button hooking just inside the offensive blue line and coughing up pucks instead of getting them deep.
Drives me nuts watching Johnny do it, if we got Zary and he just took the torch on terrible button hooks I'd flip my Gourde.
Gunler still sits higher even though he said his desire was to play with Mcwhatshisnuts and Neon Leon up north.
Can't get over his scoring ability that easily.
So today the 19th OA preference list looks like this:
1.Jarvis
2. Amirov
3. Quinn
4. Gunler
5. Zary
6. Holloway
Not too keen on taking any of the D men in the neighborhood of the Flames pick. We are pretty set for a year before going Defense with their 1st round pick.
Plenty of intriguing defensemen in the later rounds to stockpile up on IMO. I'm looking at the Victor Mancini types. Yegor Chibrikov as well.

Thing is with Jarvis and Quinn, theyll likely 99 percent be gone by the time things get to the Flames pick. Unless teams go nuts for the sparce collection of d men in the 1st round.

If the Flames do target a centre I don't hate Zary. Granted I havent watched him play except for highlight videos, that said, all the scouting reports claim he is a 200ft player.
I don't think the Flames get a complete player at their draft position. With that in mind a true number 1 center is not realistic. Someone who pushes Backlund to the third line ,however, would be a nice addition.

Connor Zary is projecting better than Sean Monahan did in his draft season (using Byron Bader's comparison tool). Ahead of Kirby Dach and Dylan Cozens as well.
He is absolutely the player I want at 19, I hope he is available at that spot.

FWIW Corey Pronman thinks this will be the case. But who the hell knows.

I wouldn't say better.
Look at who Monny played with during his draft year. Monny was the 67s that year.
I think Zary is going to be a player but I do not think he will be of that level.
