sorry, I said they should. I meant to say "they'll probably..."

It's something they should NOT do, but Flames. They should sell sell sell and get a couple high picks but they won't. I think there's a better chance of them trading the pick than getting more picks.

Still love Jarvis and Perreault, and I'm also big on Bourque and Lapierre. Any of those four would be fine by me.

After the first round I'd love to see the Flames make a run on defensemen. They haven't picked ANY dmen since Valimaki in the first round... over three years ago, now.

Somehow move up and select Askarov, the Russian goalie?

We need a #1 goalie at some point.

Pretty easy in this draft, the bulk of the defensive depth sits rounds 2 to 6.

I'm still looking at Foerster.

I wouldn't be too wary of Holloway's numbers, he has some pretty damn good players playing ahead of him, and of course-he's only 17. To put it some perspective-Ryan Poehling had only 13 pts in his draft year, and even though he's had problems with injuries and consistency as a pro, he's been a pretty highly regarded prospect the last few years.

Yeah this is what I was thinking could be holding him back. rn his numbers make him top out as a 3c maybe at his peak a 2c. But maybe there is stll more to be seen.

New issue of the Scorch Stack today highlighting Seth Jarvis as a player the Flames should really be looking at.

Quote:
Jarvis was, without a doubt, the heartbeat of the Portland offence. You could find his name somewhere on nearly 40% of all Portland goals, and 34% of all 5v5 goals. To put it in perspective, Dillon Dube had similar numbers (40.75%, 37.12% 5v5), albeit in his final year in junior. Jarvis is in his second year.

To keep this newsletter brief, here are some more stats to look at:
  • 72 primary points: that’s a lot of primary points!
  • 52 of his points came at 5v5 play, which is great. He’s not overly reliant on powerplay scoring, which can wrongfully inflate.
  • Also 41 of those 52 5v5 points were primary points. That’s a lot of 5v5 primary points!
If you’re interested in comparisons, the only other two WHLer the past decade to have scored at a similar P/GP pace in their draft year are Sam Reinhart and Nic Petan. That’s both a great comparison and a sketchy comparison respectively, but I’ll point out that both of those players had some serious help. Petan had two 100 point linemates, and Reinhart finished seven points up on the next best player on his team. Jarvis finished an astounding 28 points ahead of the next best Winterhawk.

The article doesn't say he is that type of player at all? Just references Reinhart and Petan as the only two recent players to score at as high of a clip in their draft years.

Am thinking that Jarvis is one of my top three I would like to see.

Jack Quinn
Dylan Holloway
Seth Jarvis

Just not sure on my order yet.

I question whether Jarvis will drop to us.

Future Considerations has him at 11th. Going into the draft, he's (arguably) ahead of where Sean Monahan was in his D0 year and about on par with Elias Lindholm.

At 19th Overall? That'd be a freaking steal.

If I were to rank who we have a shot at, I'd look at it like this:

1. Seth Jarvis
2. Connor Zary
3. Dawson Mercer

-drop in quality-

4. Jacob Perreault
5. Rodion Amirov

-drop in quality-

6. Mavrik Bourque

Players I would absolutely avoid would be Dylan Holloway and Jan Mysak.

If Jarvis drops, it's a no brainer - you take him. Barring that, I'm hopeful for Zary or Mercer. Jack Quinn is a wild card for me though. Lots there to like but concerns are almost everywhere, could be this year's Jakob Chychrun (drops, but is a great value pick).

I think it's unlikely he's available at 19, but he's ranked 18th on McKenzie's list, which is probably as accurate as a list gets for predicting the draft considering it's built on actual scout averages.

If he is there at 19, I would jump at it.

Problem with Connor Zary is that everybody says that skating is his biggest weakness.
That is the problem we are finding with Monahan. Good skills and high IQ but he is not quick enough to get whene he needs to be on the ice.

Drafting Zary would be doing the same thing. Game is getting faster. Dont draft in the first half of the draft players that cannot skate.

This is my list too. Also don't really get the lapierre love. If we are ok with that level of injury history/ concern then we should just trade for Nolan Patrick.

Holloway sounds and looks a lot like Horvat. A Horvat that doesn’t even have the skating issues as a concern.

It’s always hard projecting but from the highlights I’ve seen of Holloway, he looks really good. Sturdy and stocky frame and a powerful skater with a reported 200 foot game. That’s the whole blueprint for centres you win with in the playoffs.

Indeed! I disagree now, something is totally off about Perrault's game to me.
