How exactly did the McDavid cause the Flames to miss the playoffs?

Flames had 5 points in 5 Games Vs. the Oilers? Not great but certainly not the straw that broke the camels back

Between Game #70 and Game #81 last season, the Flames had two wins. Both were against the Oilers.

Yup, McDavid is the reason you were fired, Glen.

It probably didn't have much to do with missing the playoffs but after two seasons Gully still had no answer on how to slow McJesus down, all he had to do is watch how teams like San Jose and Anaheim did it instead of having no plan at all. I hope Peters can show him how it's done

Lol, okay Glen. You nailed it bud, your inability to coach against McDavid was the *only* reason you got turfed.

Astounding that this mook even now refuses to accept any accountability for the utterly miserable two years he was here.
In fairness, Gulutzan's plans to defend McDavid were atrocious. It's hockey. He's one guy. The Oilers embarrassed the Flames while Gulutzan was coach.

Had Gulutzan had to match with against Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano, he might have won more games. Unlikely, but possible.

The Oilers sucked last year. Meaning, most teams were able to handle them. The Flames looked pathetic against them.

All on Gulutzan.

Ironically he'll find a way this year. And it will be glorious!

5 points in 5 games...dominated three of them

GG sucked but the Oilers didn't dominate the Flames last season

That's not how fact-checking works, and it's very Edmonton of you to make comparisons to players and teams from 1926!

I was waiting for Staples to call out McKenzie for not tweeting in 1926.

No one can save the Oilers. No entity currently corporeal or otherwise.

Not even the the ghosts of Eddie Shore, the Rocket, Jean Beliveau, Howie Morenz, Stan Mikita et. al can save them.

Not even conjuring the Hockey Gods can save them. For they have been forsaken.

There is no Oilers Jesus. No Oilers Thor. No Oilers Zeus nor Oilers Flying Spaghetti Monster. No Oilers God in Sweatpants and Good Shoes.

Even the currently corporeal legends can not save them.

Not even the Oilers Alumni can save them. They could have a NHL All-Star "We Are the World. We Are the Oilers/No Good Tears is Not Good Enough" sing-a-long medley and it wouldn't save them but would annoy a lot of folks.

Nothing can save them.

No one.

Nothing.

Now why did Bob have to go and say something like that? You know the Edmonton media piranhas will nibble on any bit of validation they can get for their joke of a club. Don't feed them, man!

I would not call what Bob said validation. It was actually a harsh criticism of Edmonton’s no goodness. Edmonton media have preferred to take a small chunk of the whole quote out of context because they’re delirious as usual.

Quote:
“I think the way most people look at it, every year you have a Connor McDavid-led team that misses the playoffs that is a crime against hockey humanity. I think that would be especially true this season after they didn’t do it last season. I mean McDavid’s game is on its own level and it would be absolutely criminal if the Edmonton Oilers cannot find a way to surround him with enough talent to get this team back into the playoffs.”
Nowhere does he say he thinks it’s criminal they don’t make it or that they should. He says “most people”. He’s lamenting the fact they’re so goddamn incompetent that they can’t find anyone talented unless it’s a gift from the lotto balls.

I love it. Sure, blame McDavid, dont take any responsibility yourself. Keep on keeping on Gully.

Maybe GG was right. Connor McDavid being in Edmonton meant all the other WC teams got more points then they should have, and those teams eliminate the flames cause Connor.

Genius..... doesn’t pass the eye test but the underlying numbers are there. #underated #gonnaneedmoretrainbeers #throwingsticksintrainingcamp

GG's line of reasoning is perfect example of why he is no longer with the team. Refuses to see the forest through the trees.

Yup, McDavid is the reason you were fired, Glen.

To be fair, Glen is just trying to make a good impression which is something he seems good at! He said he wanted to go to the oilers instead of taking up other offers because he wants to win. I am guessing he is an opportunist. He can talk the talk but I don't think he is ready for prime time. He should have gone where he could learn from a winning coach, but I suspect he is more interested in climbing the ladder.

as far as I'm concerned, McDavid could have gotten rocket engines grafted on to his ass, and it still wouldn't make a lick of difference because this isn't basketball. unless he literally becomes Quicksilver and is able to freeze time for himself, it's just another stupid thing to distract from how they've yet again failed to build a proper NHL squad around him.
