This guy was the best Calgary Flame of all time. Bar none. It actually kind of bugged me that so many during the press conference (which was well done I thought by the organization), mentioned "one of the greatest" or "one of the best" Flames to ever play.
No. The best. The guy should have a statue and encapsulates pretty much the perfect hockey player.
In his last couple years I was pretty highly critical of the guy, but I believed that it was in the best interest of the organization to move him (little did I know the return would be so terrible). But now looking back, I almost regret that the Flames moved him. Maybe I should have expected mixed feelings given how important he was to the city and the team at this press conference, but he really is a legend.
He was like a significantly upgraded Cam Neely, and as a kid I loved Cam Neely because he wasn't afraid of anything and he was just so talented. It's crazy looking back how lucky we were to cheer for Iginla over all the years and then package that with how classy he is, he really is the greatest Calgary Flame of all time. Cup or not.

I agree with you on all of that post, Iginla is the best Flame of all time and its not close as far as I'm concerned. It took me a long time to give him that but I think there was one game in 2007 or 2008 where I turned to my buddy and finally admitted it.
But an "upgraded" Cam Neely? Perhaps you mean in terms of durability? Neely was a freakishly reckless bull on the ice, a unique player in any era... he scored 50 goals in 44 games one year! Iginla was an all-time great, but at their peaks, anyone would have to give the edge to Neely. Iggy gets the edge in availability and longevity. One could argue the B's provided a better supporting cast in those early 90s. Anyway, stupid Canucks basically gave him away. Let's not overlook that. Haha.

Iginla is probably the greatest Flame ever, but I can see the argument for McDonald, Fleury, Macinnis, Kiprusoff and Vernon as well.
The thing I love about Jarome is that there are 2 versions of him. Off the ice he's a polite, well spoken, outgoing friendly personality. A Bruce Banner if you will. But on the ice he's a completely different person. Trash talking, tough as nails, will run you over, and beat your ass in a fight. Like the Hulk. If you didn't know he was a hockey player, you'd think he was just some nice friendly family-man who spent his days smiling at people. Pretty crazy to think that on the ice, he was such a beast and tough competitor.
Truly a rare player. With the power forwards and enforcers of the NHL slowly being phased out, it's really not out of the realm to think that players of his style will disappear over time and all that will be left is their memory.
It's not only the end of an Era for Flames' fans, but also for players of that breed.

Do a google image search for "mansion Calgary" and compare to "mansion Massachusetts", and let me know where you would live with NHL superstar money?
Access to world-class healthcare, incredible youth sports programs, some of the best post-secondary institutions in the world. No contest...
Sidenote - first image returned for mansion Calgary is that Super 8 looking mess off of Highway 22, that is unfortunate.
Your second paragraph is hilarious considering we don’t have world class health care, especially when Jarome can afford it in the United States, and that Boston is home to a glut of universities including freakin’ Harvard which, with all due respect to U of C and MRU, destroys both of those schools.

Holy run-on sentence.
He's saying that rich poeple in the US have access to world class healthcare and top universities. He's not talking about Canada.

I have a feeling you are both on the same side

Awesome, awesome post.

Not to continue the derail, but this mention of the mansion on hwy 22 prompted me to google search. I came up with this article from 2014, that has actual quotes from Calgary Puck complaining about the mansion. Thought it was pretty funny
"Others on chatboards and social media have marveled at its size. A post on the Calgarypuck forum, “Flabbibulin” says it’s, “the biggest bloody house I have ever seen!,” while “OzyFlame” dubbed it, “overly hedonistic,” and “jaydorn” asks, “That's a house?! Drove by there last month and just thought it was a weird place for a hotel/condos. But a single family home?”
Also I was just on the front page and the athletic front office article was right below this one... when I wasnt focused on it and read it my heart skipped a beat as I thought it said jarome iginla to announce front office...
I don't want to go full Oilers here but he would be an amazing guy to bring up slowly into the ranks like yzerman in detroit
I was surprised the Flames didn't mention anything about their plans for retiring his jersey during Iggy's press conference. I assume they'll announce something as it gets closer to the season?

Those f***ers better do this right.
They did mention that there is definitely more to come and said something along the lines of a 41 game salute. reading between the lines they will retire his jersey. Stupid not to and they know it.
Now that I figured out how to post pictures I want to share my own 'Iginla is awesome' story like so many others have.
After the Flames were knocked out by the Ducks in 2006, I waited around for the players. There were so many people waiting at the parking lot, all cheering. Most players were stopping, until Iginla got there. He put his car right in park and got out and a few players behind him followed suit and did the same. They just were eliminated and he stuck around to walk and talk with the fans. It was awesome. Anyways, I had parked really close myself as my vehicle was all decked out in Flames attire, and I had an idea.
Back in my youth and looking to improve my terrible vehicle, I had done what most people my age did and got a subwoofer & amp. SoundsAround built this custom Calgary Flames sub box, and the sub is back behind glass, the inside carpet is all red, it was amazing. I just happened to be there after they made it and I purchased it instantly. I had thought of taking the front face off if Iginla had a scheduled autograph session or something but I ended up doing one better.
I ask him: "Hey, sorry but I have something in my vehicle and it would be awesome if you could sign it, its right there" (how messed up does that sound? I would have said 'no thanks'. But in fairness it was closer than 50 feet away)
Iginla chuckles "Uhhh alright?"
I open my trunk and Iginla laughed and was genuinely pumped. He asked where I wanted him to sign it and I said "as big as you can because it'll be the only one on there".
And that's how I obtained the coolest thing I own:
NSFW!
