I was kind of surprised by Connie's story of how grumpy Iginla was when they traded for Conroy and when he got put on the top line.
When your team needs more offense and management gives you what seemed to be a grinder, you'd be upset as well. Luckily, Conroy turned out to be what Iggy needed.
Conroy was traded for Stillman, but took Savard's place as top line centre, as Savard was injured at the time.
Conroy didn’t take the first line center spot until the season after he was traded to the Flames. Then Savard got injured early the next season, the same season Iggy scored 52.
Does anyone know why Iggy chose to settle post-career in Boston? Or am I misinformed on that?
From what I've heard, they enjoyed their time there when he was with the Bruins and the Boston area has high-quality youth hockey programs for boys and girls.

Depending on who you want to count, there was a - player on the team for 6 games for a difference of 125. Still a 104 difference between Orr and Marcotte who was a regular with 75 games played.

If that's the case this seems odd to me, given how little time he spent there and how much he loves Calgary, which also has high quality youth hockey programs.

I take it you've never been to the Boston area. It's not odd at all. Beautiful place to live in his bracket.

Clearly you've never been to Boston. It's just a little bit nicer than Calgary.

I would think that he can go most places in Boston without being recognized. That will never be an option for him in Calgary. For a private guy like Jarome, that most definitely played a role in that decision.

This is a really good point that I didn’t think of. He might be the most recognizable figure in Calgary.

agreed. Iggy, when he was a player, understood that he was going to be recognized and that it was part of his job (representing the team)
as a private citizen, i would think he's more inclined to avoid the spotlight if he can... Boston is beautiful, but i am sure the anonymity was also a factor.

Yeah, I would bet that's a huge factor. High-quality hockey programs for their kids like they'd get in Canada with anonymity they can't get anywhere in Canada.

I was in Boston for a few days just before the season Iginla was going to lace up for the Bruins. Most people I spoke to knew he was going to play, and brought it up before I could when I mentioned I was from Calgary.
They, as a city, seemed to be very knowledgable about all their sports teams. Of which they have a lot, all storied franchises, multiple hall of famers in multiple sports. I think he would be recognized, but just left to do his own thing like so many other superstars in town.
