seriously, some of you guys have no ability to recognize when somebody is being facetious. Makes these threads annoying to read.

Characterizing it as throwing him away is misleading. I think most of us want what we feel is best for both Iggy and the Flames and I don't get why that is hard for some of you to understand.

It's difficult to express the little nuances of spoken conversation over the internet. Sometimes people just don't pick up on a person's meaning right away.

Could you imagine Iggy going to the Blackhawks? Geez. Wait until after Tuesdays game, trade him, and then he'd host the Flames for the last game of their regular season before launching the Hawks into a deep playoff run. It's a story that writes itself.
Captain my Captain. It was a great run. Go with our blessing. Win a cup, and re-sign here in the offseason at a hometown/retirement discount. Or not. You've paid your dues.

If you look through all the guys who entered the league between the first and second lock-out It is Thronton, Iginla, B Richards, and Kovalchuck. Then everyone else. (honourable mention to Alfie who entered the league right after the lockout I think?)
For me it is not a reach to say currently Iggy is the best player of his era.
Sakic is at best #4 of the guys who entered the league in the 10 years before the lockout. Mario, Jagr, StevieY. and there is still Hull, Gilmour, Selanne, Recchi, Modano right there with Sacik.
It really hard to compare players from the mid 80's with players from the mid 90's. But if you don't think Iginla's individual career has been on the same level as Sakics you haven't been watching.

This is great. Your sentiments are perfect if we must trade him away. I will cheer for him to win a cup.

Cup or no cup I doubt that he would ever want to resign with the Flames at all. With the pressures that are coming I have no doubt that Iggy will feel a bit like he was chased out of town.
I mean when he goes into the Hall of Fame he'll probably wear a Flames jersey unless he wins a cup somewhere else. But I doubt that he would willingly return to this organization.
Once that bridge is burned I doubt that he'll be all that eager to supply the wood to rebuild it.

We're losing our minds. Love Iginla, hall of famer, best of his generation but, he's no Sakic. Call me when a 37 year old Iginla has his first 100 point season, like what Sakic did. And who was on that Avalanche team? Brunette, Hejduk, Statsny and Wolski as the notable forwards.

Iginla is a great great player but comparing him to Sakic as equals means you are forgetting how good Sakic was

Iginla did say "a week away" in his interview, so maybe it's going to the deadline.
