Nothing about yesterday, but maybe time to look at upgrading? Or am I missing something herre?

Hopefully that's the silver lining. Yesterday's storm aside, the B concourse was long overdue for a refresh.

I'm not sure if it was in the plans already, but this might expedite it.

I’ve never seen huge hail in the Beltline either. The North end seems to take the brunt first.

I do believe there is a renovation plan, with consideration to extending the concourse as well

North end has had a bad run, I remember 4 bad ones in the past 15 years, I think the epicenters were, but it can hit elsewhere.

Airdrie ~'09
Skyview ~'20
Shawnessy ~'22

I don't even know if I could name the epicenter yesterday, I've heard of Citadel, Panorama, Evanston, Skyview, Carrington, The Airport..... getting hit. That's a crazy huge area, it seems like every single community north of Country Hills Blvd.

I have to assume it has something to do with topography? Like, the flat open plain versus having a bunch of elevation change nearby? From Valley Ridge through to basically Point McKay, you're in a valley that's about 200m lower in elevation than the hills north and south of the river. I'm guessing that has something to do with it? I am not a meteorologist and have no scientific basis for thinking so other than extensive anecdotal evidence...

Yeah growing up Marlborough Park, we were good for an epic hailstorm at least once per summer. Living in other parts of the city through adulthood, it seems a lot more rare. Of course there're a lot more variables than just location, but that's my anecdotal experience.

As a kid hailstorms are fun. As an adult with cars and a home not so much.

Yes, the oldest part of our terminal is what has the most damage, the second oldest part has the second most damage. The billion dollar terminal that's a decade old has no damage from what I can see.

Lots of Air Canada cancelled this morning because they were more precautionary about sending planes in last night than WestJet was, with the risk of hail.

We're really not sure what's happening tomorrow so I don't want to suggest anybody book/rebook/change plans when it's a toss up at this point.

I doubt the roof hasn't been assessed or redone in 55 years.

Flat roofs have roof drains.
Hail plugs roof drains.
Rain ponds deeper and deeper till it find a way in.

This is way more likely then a roof membrane failure. Happens quite often during and after major hail storms.

Airdrie got hammered in 2014 too, & parts of Airdrie were hit again in the 2020 hailstorm that decimated so much of the NE. 2014 was a $583M hit, that 2020 storm was about $1.2B for damages.

Yeah me neither, though I've only lived in the Beltline for a hair over 3 years. I noticed on my balcony last night I had a few grains of regular, Nerds-sized hail, but that was it thankfully. My friends on either extremity of the city have a different story...especially the one who just moved by the airport. Ugh..

When I was inquiring last year, going to hardy board was about double the price of vinyl. FWIW, the hail storm that ripped through Ogden & Riverbend last summer damaged hardy board as well.

I might have been thinking of '14.

Time is really hard, I was driving home from an event that I've been to 4 times that day, and I remember the black cloud in the sky, never seen a cloud that black. but I was thinking it was the first year of the event in '09. I could completely have the year wrong, because I was there in '14 too.

Last night being under it was a different look, it was almost turquoise, also a specific colour I've never seen before.

Most of the Airport's major capital dollars are going to the runway replacement right now.

I flew into Toronto for work yesterday afternoon so my car is sitting at the Park and Jet lot and would have been fully exposed during the storm. Wont get back til Friday. Really hoping I dont come back to a disaster.

Lost a truck to hail in the Beltline in 2015 or 2016. Forget which year.
