Yeah but not next year…and Monahan is struggling so I doubt they would want to spend all that money on him

To be fair, not too many posters here wanted any of those players. Duchene you couldn't give away. And a decent start probably still leaves him as a risky player with negative value.

I think you need to let some seasons play out, as the strategy was different for both teams.

Plus Vegas had the advantage of the other teams overpaying them not to draft certain players, a mistake they didn't make the 2nd time.

Go back and read the draft thread for Vegas. Many, many posters heavily criticized Vegas for making too many deal and getting too many draft picks, and not a good enough team.

Vegas has a good team, but they are pretty top heavy right now and aren't particularly young.

It would shock me if Seattle wins the Cup before Vegas LOL. They have no bad contracts, and the players they did take with some term and money are reasonably young.

Gotta wonder what happened to Monahan's shot. His shooting percentage has collapsed over the last 3 seasons.

I can see why the Krakken avoided the high priced Montreal contracts, but passing on Tarasenko was a bit of a Head scratcher. His contract was not long term, and scoring is always something that any expansion team will lack in some form or another. It's like taking Giordano because in the last year of an expiring contract you can trade him at the deadline for a reasonable return and get the picks that a guy like Francis probably wanted to build thru the draft.

Francis took too many questionable younger guys that he's now given back as opposed to some more valuable vets he could have traded for something. Vegas didn't shy away from Perron and Neal because they were older guys with one year left on their contracts. Seattle passed on too many of those types in favor of other fringe guys. It's like Francis couldn't figure out that you can't have a 30 player roster of waiver eligible guys and expect to keep them all. He needed to draft 7 players that he intended to trade right away to build up his asset base.

You think Monahan on his current deal is worth more than Kratzov?

they are not comparable, nor are they tradable, because of their contracts

Monahan is the new Bennett this year. You throw him on the third or fourth line. He doesn't produce as much as expected. Then every fan is suggesting he should be traded in every trade idea.

No Krebs were not really a NHLer at the time. He was injury called up. That’s why he is in the minor now. He is not ready.

But the point is good prospects always have some value and Krav is still a decent prospect

As for the plus, we are not offering Eichel

Right now it is looking like Sean Monahan on LTIR next year to get out of his full salary might be the best thing for the Flames financially to fit in the 3 key guys up front who need new deals.

We keep hoping he's going to turn it around, but 20 games in, he's not doing much and the team is getting by quite well.

I think it's very unlikely that Sean Monahan is going to sit on the LTIR at 27 years old

So do you want the Flames to break his legs? You can't just put someone on LTIR
