3rd line right wing could definitely use an upgrade for sure, totally agree with Enoch Root too that it would balance the depth of this team even more which honestly is pretty crazy when you think about it.

Personally a big part of me wishes we could see Phillips given a 3 or 4 game cup of coffee to see where he sits at this level.

Dube - Monahan - Phillips

Lots of speed with Dube and Phillips adds a ‘slow-down’ element that could really compliment Monahan’s shooting abilities if he could be so lucky as to find that scoring touch he had.

I agree, it would be very unlikely to happen, but it would be awesome. He was the player I wanted the Flames to draft in 2013, however the Canucks wisely selected him 9th before the Flames second opportunity later in the 1st round. He is also cousins with Travis Konecny, another player I covet for the Flames.

His faceoff ability alone makes him a really great fit for the club. Anything aiding in puck possession is extremely desirable when you look at how this team is operating right now. I can’t see Benning being foolish enough to trade a player like him to us though. The outrage would be real.

Why has Horvat become alienated in that room?

Seems weird

Is Quinn Hughes abrasive?

I think that losing is bad on team morale. We've seen it here too!

I'd be okay with it but Horvat for Monahan feels like it could be an interesting "Change of Scenary" trade for both guys.

But Flames playing so well would make it a weird trade at this point.

I would swap Backlund and Horvat but that top nine would be amazing

The thought of adding a centre who can do that seems like a pipe dream though.

Devils claim Bastian off waivers from Seattle after Seattle picked him in the expansion draft.

Seems like another expansion draft pick wasted by the Kraken.

Horvat could use a change of scenery.

Monahan needs a change of body parts.

You won't get Horvat for Monahan.

No kidding, so many misses by Seattle it seems it really makes it even more puzzling when you consider the time Francis had to evaluate and analyze everything. Just looking at what was available from New Jersey I’m taking one of Andreas Johnsson or Will Butcher (who is struggling in Buffalo) almost every single time over Nathan Bastian.

Notable available players exposed by the ‘Jersey’
P.K. Subban
Andreas Johnsson
Will Butcher
Nathan Bastian
Nick Merkley
Scott Wedgewood

Kraken's mishandling of the expansion draft continues. What a train wreck that day was for them. Honestly I might have been able to pick a better team with a dart board with names on it and blindfolded.

The one that blows me away the most is taking Dunn over Tarasenko. Yes injury risk... kind of? But... Tarasenko. It's Tarasenko. For free. I guess you could take Dunn, but that would mean not taking Tarasenko. Maybe it's because Dunn is 4 years younger? Seemed like a very weird move. Tarasenko to date this year? Nearly double the production.

Take the BPA, that way you have an asset to play or trade...I can't even believe how bad they did

Take Tarasenko and trade him
Take price and trade him 50% retained to the Oilers for a 1st

FFS this isn't rocket appliances

They could have taken Zadorov and flipped him to the Flames or elsewhere and got the pick for themselves instead of an AHLer who can't make a team in the basement

I still can’t believe they didn’t take Price and/or Tarasenko. It didn’t make sense then. It doesn’t make sense now.

Yeah it's crazy. Not only did they end up with a weaker team than Vegas, Seattle also failed to accumulate a surplus of draft picks.

I remember Vegas having sooooo many picks for the next few drafts. All Seattle has is an extra 4th in 2022 and an extra 2nd and 4th in 2023.

EDIT: They also only picked 7 players in their first draft. The Knights picked 11 players in their first draft, and 5 of them in the 1st two rounds. Yikes.

They could have had Duchene. They could have had Domi. They could have had Tarasenko.

Shhhh.

John Weisbrod was here when we drafted Monahan and we want to trick him and Benning.

I don’t think Phillips is in the Flames plan
