Well, that was a simply epic game last night for the Casual team!
It was me, stalker, kev, merc, and CF. We were playing a team of six ("iTs iN OuR bLoOD") , so I went goalie! (gasp!
)
The game was really back and forth for a while, and I got beat on a couple cross ice passes because I was hugging the post a bit too long as the puck was down around the goal line. Eventually, we all started to get into a groove...but it looked like it was too little, too late as it was 2-1 with time winding down in regulation.
I raised the issue of pulling myself, as we had a powerplay with a couple minutes to go. We debated, then agreed I would be off to the bench with just under a minute to go. The two man advantage almost backfired, as the other team skated into our zone, and missed the empty net!
Then, things got crazy. A scramble in front of the opposing goal resulted in a turnover with a just a few seconds left. As the other team is about to clear the puck, good defensive pressure causes the other team to cough it up. With 1.5 seconds left, the CPU controlled extra attacker turns around and slaps the loose puck top corner! I screamed so loud, I woke up my folks who were sleeping upstairs!
The first OT was a "camping" period- it was "in tents"!
Both teams had great offensive chances. We thought we were doomed when a couple simultaneous penalties meant the other team had a two man advantage for a full 2 minutes, but the PK was great, so we survived.
I had some luck on my side. Once, I grabbed a puck as it right on the goal line. Also, both teams hit posts.
The game progressed into the second OT, where Kev ended it with a semi-screened backhander from the point!
What a game! The team played really well together, and my goaltending is better than it was last year! That was the best EASHL game I've had yet- but there were great ones last year too!
