A group of us went camping last weekend and I thought for sure we'd come across one, given all the warnings and sightings going on combined with that time of year with bears feeding on all the ripe berries. First night at about 3am I heard some rumblings outside the tent for about 10 minutes. Thought for sure it was a bear, even with us being vigilant in storing all food/beverages in the cars and cleaning the site and taking out the garbage before going to bed.
Thankfully it was just my buddy stumbling outside puking from all the rum.

My friend’s Great Pyrenees used to run into the middle of Nose Hill and toss coyotes. They’d surround her and she’d start chucking them around for fun. Tough dogs.

I had an Akbash/Lab cross named Jet and he was ridiculously fast. I used to take him for runs with my side by side and he would run 40km+ for 30mins at a time, never seeming to get tired. His favorite game was getting chased by the coyotes and would end up with a half dozen on his tail running in front of our acreage. They would eventually get tired and give up then he would come home, it was pretty funny to watch.

Usually they find dead coyotes but I guess the bear came too close to the livestock that year.

My buddy had a brother and a sister, Great Pyrenees. He told us a story of walking them, and a lone coyote came up to them, presumably to lure them back to the pack. They took off after it, and by the time my buddy caught up, there were six dead coyotes. I was never sure about this story; now it seems it was true.
Another quick story, I was walking my dog, a smallish terrier and we saw a lone coyote and he was scouting us out. I backed out of the path we were on and up the hill I could see the rest of the pack watching. Really creepy. This was actually right in town, near that bmx track.

Honestly the only part of that story that surprises me is that a coyote would approach a pair of pyrenees walking together. Seems like an obviously bad idea for the coyotes.

Students on a field trip in Bella Coola attacked by a grizzly. How ####in scary would that be for 9-10 year olds.

A grizzly bear attack involving students in Bella Coola on British Columbia’s Central Coast has left two people critically injured and two others seriously hurt, according to emergency officials.
B.C. Emergency Health Services (BCEHS) says seven additional people were treated at the scene but did not require transport to hospital.

From the Toronto Sun
Quote:
Veronica Schooner told CP that her 10-year-old son Alvarez was one of the students in the class and he was so close to the animal “he even felt its fur.”
“He was running for his life,” she detailed, adding that many people tried to stop the attack but one male teacher “got the whole brunt of it” and was among those who were taken from the scene by helicopter.
Schooner said that three children were among those who suffered major injuries.
“He said that bear ran so close to him, but it was going after somebody else,” the woman said of her son.

That is terrifying. Especially because even I feel pretty bear proof when I'm in a big group. That's scary AF.

I'm amazed that teacher could even move at all, what with having to drag those ginormous balls around!!
Standing your ground against a Bear while everyone else is doing their best 'George Costanza at a birthday party' impression?

Sliver was right all along. Be transparent with the count, and re-introduce the Grizzly hunt in BC & AB, and bring the numbers down.

Lets take a bunch of hors d'oeuvres into the woods in bear country in the fall as the bears are finishing their season and fattening up before hibernation.

Does the bear just go psycho and mow down as many as he can to get his kill count up?You’d think he’d just concentrate on one and everyone else can beat it in the meantime. Do they even eat the human meat or is he Jackie Channing every thing he sees. Not sure why I’ve assumed gender of the bear.

The last time it was bumped he went unhinged, hopefully it happens again, fantastic entertainment. The wall of texts, the anger... describing a "giant chunk" of Banff National Park closed off due to bear activity when it was no mor e than an Ikea parking lot lmao.

Looks like they think it was a momma bear and her 2 cubs.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/briti...vice-9.6989324
Three bears — a grizzly sow and two cubs — were “likely” involved in the attack on a school group in Bella Coola, B.C., according to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS).
In a news conference#Saturday, BCCOS Sgt. Jeff Tyre said officers have been placing traps and snare sets in the area of the 4 Mile subdivision, but no bears have been captured.
“We have established that there was likely a sow and two cubs involved in the incident," Tyre said, adding the information is based on their investigation and witness accounts so far.
