Usually they find dead coyotes but I guess the bear came too close to the livestock that year.

They must have been fierce, but they were so kind and gentle with us as kids. Just great dogs.

My buddy had a brother and a sister, Great Pyrenees. He told us a story of walking them, and a lone coyote came up to them, presumably to lure them back to the pack. They took off after it, and by the time my buddy caught up, there were six dead coyotes. I was never sure about this story; now it seems it was true.
Another quick story, I was walking my dog, a smallish terrier and we saw a lone coyote and he was scouting us out. I backed out of the path we were on and up the hill I could see the rest of the pack watching. Really creepy. This was actually right in town, near that bmx track.
