I think Cavalry, as a franchise, would have options in the event of a league closure. They have built a successful football brand that is now starting to grow past the CPL in identity anyways. The USL could be an option for them (pending FIFA/CONCACAF approval); I think they could see success in that league as well. Same could be said for Halifax and Hamilton.
It would be such a bitter disappointment if we had to cave and join a US league.
This is such an important piece of infrastructure to fuel our national program in the future. If public money is going to be spent on sports, it should be for leagues like this, not the NHL.

People have to want these clubs too. We're seeing in that people don't want Vancouver FC. IMO Valour are FC Edmonton 2.0; they have poor ownership, a bad game day experience and terrible results and wonder why people stopped coming.
I think York are turning a corner a bit with their new owners. Long way to go but they're improving.
MLS has never seen a team do what the Whitecaps are doing this year. Basically dominate every stat you can think of while doing a CCC run. Incredible. Berhalter is the best midfielder in the league right now

Has public money ever been spent on the NHL? Honest question, I've just never heard of it. Unless we're talking owners conning cities/provinces into funding arenas? In terms of actual league financial aid I've never heard of it.

I was referring to the stadium/parking/concessions methods of subsidizing the NHL with public dollars.
I'd much rather those funds make their way to leagues that are not clearly viable.

It's also worth pointing out that CF Montreal beat TFC in Can Champ play last night on penalties. Former Cavs Joel Waterman and Victor Loturi get the win. Waterman had a very eventful game. Corbeanu made him look silly on both TFC goals but he scored in the game off a lovely half volley and in the penalty shootout while wearing the captain's armband.
What you mean? I support Cavalry financially - merch, tickets, and metric #### tonnes of beer.
Not sure it is incumbent on me to be supporting the other clubs. I have Onesoccer so they get money via that I guess.
If my buying beer is supporting the league somehow, they are getting a tremendous amount of support from me. Sometimes the next morning, I realise it was more support than I should've given!
The problem with most of these smaller leagues is that gate revenue and merchandise aren't even enough.
In order to succeed you need strong sponsorship and tv revenue, and generally some type of support from a bigger organization (Soccer Canada / Federal Government).
Even the AHL and the minor league baseball leagues wouldn't be able to survive without the support of the NHL / MLB.

I meant it as more of a general rule. What you are doing is all you need to do. If enough people want this league to be around and spend money on them, then it will be around.
You may not realize it but by supporting Cavalry financially, you are currently supporting Valour financially; the other clubs have been loaning them money the last two seasons. Just like they paid York's bills in between their owners, and like they paid Edmonton's bills before that was determined to be a lost cause.
The clubs that have their #### together will be propping up the clubs that don't have their #### together. All of MLS was owned by 3 people at one point.
Speaking of supporting local, how does one go about buying tickets for League 1 games? The various club websites have practically no information. Can you just roll up on the day and pay admission?
