Fans can complain if they want, even if they understand what’s happening. It’s their right as long as they pay the freight

Voted 27 not because I think they are necessarily even that good, but it is the Flames way

I voted 27th place, because that would mean the Flames pick 6th, which is where they tend to pick when they retool. The Flames have picked at #6 many times, but never #5, #3, #1, etc.

I dunno.

The defence is bad. We have a rookie and a backup as our goalies. We may be able to score but we won’t keep pucks out enough.

As long as those same people spend their money on tickets to fill the rink to at least 80% capacity, everything will be just fine
Or the owner can view a few leaner years as an investment in the future. That's how all businesses operate in their growth stage. Landing 2 or 3 superstars will do way more for the franchise than anything else.

The guys who are going to lead this team in the future aren't even on the team yet. They can sign a vet or two over the next couple off seasons. That's an easier hole to fill than finding young talent who can play in your top 4 or top 6 in the future. Bahl is 24, Bean is 26, Miromanov is 27. If any of these guys are part of the future core they don't need their hand held.

IF we get 2 or 3 superstars. That’s not guaranteed.
We demanded the rebuild.
We are getting the rebuild.
We need to support the rebuild.

Here's my problem with rebuilds.

It feels like your cheating the fans.

You're going out of your way to put a bad product on the ice, and yet your not reducing ticket prices or feed prices, we're getting charged full gravy for a product that's meant to be bad.

Smart teams would reduce food costs , beer costs and have way more family friendly prices tiers in the upper decks during rebuilds and operate with a lower payroll

This would build a new generation of fan for the next decade (s)

A rebuild is also a great opportunity to rebuild your brand and start to rebuild fan interest

I don’t expect any of that , but it would be prudent

It's being done to give the fans a chance at a championship though.

I think Conroy has done a good job at sprinkling in the exciting parts (young new talent) while setting a ceiling on upside by not spending like a fool in free agency or committing to older players who haven't won.

I think the cheating of the fans was deficit spending and overpaying in free agency, because that's not how you build a winning team in the NHL.

I think doing things like spending on a new jumbotron help on this front. They're doing things around the ice to try and provide value.

I understand your point, but I gotta admit, I find it kind of funny too

“We know the team sucks but stick with us. To show our good will, come pay full price for tickets and food (full price plus 20% in the new building) and watch the suckage on a really big screen”

I guess there are no smart teams, because I’ve never seen that happen.

It's season ticket holders that get bent over.

When teams are bad, the price of tickets on the secondary market goes down a lot.

It's a tough ask to have STHs watch loss after loss for a lot of money. Hopefully most buy into the project.

Look harder - more then one team have recently dropped food and beer prices - usually with a new owner coming in to gain good will - but also as good business

Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Mariners are two I remember and actually made more money after reducing prices. There are others that I can’t remember off the top of my head

Ticket Prices are harder to know as it’s easy for the news to
Report a team launching a new lower priced food and beer menu vs all the different pricing tiers in the stadium promotions . Sure you won’t see an across the board drop in prices - but lots of teams offer lower prices for certain games / promotions when they have attendance issues (like during a rebuild )

Teams don’t double the prices when they are contenders either.

Prices are determined by supply and demand.

If lowering prices would eventually pay off with increased future revenues, teams would do that.

I expect it wouldn’t. Or at least not enough to compensate for the initial loss revenue. There are expects that determine this.

Running promotions in the second deck for unsold tickets is not equal to lower season ticket prices across the board .

And actually successful teams do raise tickets faster than losing teams - since the demand is higher - as you correctly pointed out 😏

I would think anyone who pays a significant sum of money to go to every game in a season would understand the cycles of pro sports teams and why rebuilds have to happen.
I wonder how many long time season ticket holders in Calgary are really attached to the decades long results of mostly first round losses/no playoffs. If I were a season ticket holder I would cancel if they were stubborn enough not to rebuild at this stage.
