Zero point in moving Weegar. He's the guy I'd keep. I want to see him mentor Parekh.

Depends what the offers are. He will be 31 this year. His best years are kind of wasted here. If you can get a legit asset that will be in their prime when the Flames are competitive that seems to make more sense.

If you can get something great, then maybe.
But you need a few good players with good attitudes & work ethic around to show the youth the ropes.
If we want to move out some vets for futures, Weegar's probably last on my list to do that unless someone offers the moon.

Especially on D.
Defencemen don't come into the NHL knowing how to defend against NHL players. That's something you learn by doing, and you learn faster if you've got a good example and a reliable defence partner.

Voted 25th, figure the defence should be pretty bad, but Wolf could go on a few heaters. Forward group has some skill, grit and excellent depth. Team could hover around 8-10th in the conference, similar to last season.

They have plenty of vets in Backlund, Huberdeau, Kadri, Coleman, Andersson, Kuzmenko, Mantha, Lomberg, etc. Plus they will be signing guys over the years. Refusing to trade your most valuable assets for leadership reasons seems like a waste. They need elite talent more than anything.

Always depends on the offer.
I wouldnt move qwegar or rasmus just to move them, but if someone blows you away with a package that includes a young blue chip center then you have to consider it.

This is the problem with “a proper rebuild” as everyone clamours for.
If anyone asks for “out”, you need to get them out.
Yes I know, “player A or B” said they are here for the long run, but minds change and anyone who is a true pro doesn’t want to stick around for years of losing.
So
Not only do we need rookie talent, but we need rookie character too.
So
All the bullets in the chamber matter. Picks and prospects to the tens and we really need to be careful what vets are allowed to stick around

Mantha is a one-season stopgap and might not even be here for the whole year. I wouldn't count him.
Kuzmenko, with a grand total of two years in the NHL, isn't someone I would count on for veteran presence either.
Not sure about this ‘etc.’ of which you speak, unless you mean Rooney. That pretty much exhausts the list of long-serving NHL vets on the roster. And other than Andersson, none of them are defencemen.

I disagree, we’re in full rebuild mode, every player has a price and he’s one of our top 3 tradeable assets. You move Weegar if you get a blue chip prospect or potential top draft 10 pick.

Kuzmenko has been playing pro hockey for a decade.
The same way they signed guys this off season I'm sure they will sign guys in future off seasons. That's the etc. You can aquire leadership much easier than young skilled talent. And the team doesn't need 10 or 15 vets. 5 or 6 guys should be plenty.
Personally I'd strongly consider trading both Andersson and Weegar because they will bring back the best returns. They are basically your last two assets who have potential to bring back impact players for the future. Their value is wasted providing something that can be easily acquired with no acquisition cost.

Then you have precisely zero experienced NHL defencemen. You'd be throwing the prospects into the deep end of the pool with an anvil for a life preserver.

If you traded Weegar and Andersson for picks and prospects you would have last place in the league locked up for this year and maybe next year. It would be a 164 game commitment to trying to be the worst team in the league.

Thing is, this is exactly the strategy that many here want and we’re over halfway there.
As long as those same people spend their money on tickets to fill the rink to at least 80% capacity, everything will be just fine

The thing is many of that many will be in every PGT bitching about how bad the team is.

There is revenue sharing, and a new rink being built.
I don’t know why this would be a concern over the next 5 years?

Revenue sharing may help a little but we can’t be dependent on that. And a new building ensures a 10 to 20 percent increase in costs to the fans
