Zadorov isn't signing there unless they overpay. Thanks for the picks!

Zadorov is not some kind of hot commodity
He will sign with whoever pays him

For the people complaining that the return is bad. I'm curious to know what your expectation was?
I was hoping for a second round pick but I'm not upset with a 3rd a d 5th. Most drafts a 3rd and 5th can get you into the second round.
I liked Zad, but he's a bottom pairing guy. I'm not sure why people would expect a big return for him.

If I were a betting man I'd bet that of the two only Hanifin gets traded. Flames managed to win themselves back into sniffing distance of the playoffs... given this team's natural proclivities I think they talk themselves into trying to keep a foot in both ends of the water.

Use it for what? Genuinely asking. Didn't hear the full Conroy interview. Haven't read through this entire thread. I don't understand why cap space is valuable for the Flames now.

I'd go the other way. I could see them trying to get Hanifin back to table if the team is on a run and still trading Lindholm

Take on a contract from another team for additional picks possibly (not in the interview but that is an option)

Allows them to take money back to facilitate other trades.

Looking back, you can find people that thought he would fetch a 1st from a contender or at least a 2nd. There were also people that thought he is worth 4M long term
I am sure those people are disappointed
I thought zadorov sucks but I also thought some idiots were going to pay more for his size. I guess Treliving doesn’t have the money

I disagree with this idea. If 5, 10, 25% is what a team needs to fit the the deal, you do them the favour of the minimum you need too. Why give the other team extra flexibility while removing it from yourself?
If the other team wants to pay an extra premium for that extra space, sure, otherwise minimum retention to make it work…might need that space for next move!

Take contracts for picks
But more likely freedom to call up players

Was hoping for a 2nd and a low level prospect, but I figured it’d probably be a 3rd and a prospect

This is where I was at too. I figured Dhaliwal's mock trade was actually close to what would happen. A guy like Hoglander and a 3rd.

Ideal/good trade would have been a 2nd in 24 or 25
Okay trade 3rd in 24
Underwhelming trade 3rd in 26
Maybe this trade will look much better if that cap space is used to get a better deal on someone else though. Hopefully it's all part of Conroys master plan.

If Oesterle is the Z replacement and nothing else happens then it’s bad.
If the roster is improved with calls ups then it’s fine.
If the cap is somehow weaponized to get more talent or assets, then that is great.

Y’all need to chill. Let Connie cook. Let the team respond to the removal of a self centred non-contributor. Trades don’t reveal their worth for years.

Speaking of call ups, I heard DeSimone was injured. Can anyone confirm that?
I expect if he isn't hurt he'll be called up today. Otherwise it would be Solovyov.

As long as they use the cap space they gained wisely I'm fine with it.
Everyone is so tight to the cap a move like this put you in one of the better cap positions in the league outside of the terrible or super young teams.

Solovyov needs to be called up permanently. He deserves it.
Factor in that with the trade and it looks a lot better. We have a Z replacement, didn't have to take on retention, and got future picks. Everyone is freaking out about the 2026 pick but once we get to that draft we will be stoked we traded someone 3 years ago to obtain that draft capital.

That would work for me. But the Flames are almost certainly on Kuznetsov’s 10-team no-trade list.

So we give up a good serviceable player for a 3rd and a 5th. When you consider only 54% of 3rd picks get to play a single game in the NHL and only 34% of 5th round picks play a single game the chances of us picking up somebody who will turn out as good as big Z are pretty low. Poor trade in my books.
