Pretty sure the standing ovation was not a celebration of growth though, it was just fans being fans.
Maybe it comes down to wording, as I’m more specifically talking about the standing ovation.

I think the proper way to celebrate growth is to positively enforce it when it is shown, and part of that is forgiving the past.

I just don’t think the reaction to someone not being racist should be the same reaction you give a hero.

I’m 2 months older than Hader (almost to the day), and I see where you’re coming from, but I’ve never tweeted anything that stupid before. 17 year olds should be old enough to know better. He straight up tweeted “I hate gay people”, “White power lol” and “KKK”. That’s goes beyond “I was young and dumb”. Young and dumb is using gay or f####t as an insult. I hate gay people is pure stupidity. Hell a 13 year old should know better than that.

I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt until I read the tweets.

A reporter went undercover as a Facebook moderator and was trained not to delete certain racist memes and images of child abuse

https://www.businessinsider.com.au/c...18-7?r=US&IR=T

Quote:
The journalist undertook CPL Resources’ training, in which new staff members are brought up to speed with Facebook’s community standards and set to work reviewing content including images of graphic violence, child abuse, and hate speech.

Moderators were given three options when reviewing material: ignore, delete, or mark as disturbing. Content marked as disturbing remains on Facebook but has restrictions on who is able to view it.

The reporter found instances in which images of child abuse, racism, and violence were allowed to remain on Facebook. In some cases, the findings also exposed wild inconsistencies between the way moderators were being trained and Facebook’s standards.
Quote:
CPL Resources trainees were shown a meme of a little girl having her head held underwater with the caption “when your daughter’s first crush is a little negro boy.”

The reporter was told that the image was an “ignore,” because “it implies a lot, but to reach the actual violation, you have to jump through a lot of hoops to get there.”
...
The undercover reporter also found that certain instances of hate speech were permitted. A comment aimed at Muslim immigrants that said “###### off back to your own countries” was allowed to remain on the site. Had the comment been aimed solely at Muslims, rather than Muslim immigrants, it apparently would have been deleted.

A few really bad stories, all in Canada.

"I'm racist as f--k. I don't like you, I don't like her," he adds. "I would kill your children first."

Incident in Hamilton, against an Indian couple. He's since been charged.

https://www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4765141?__t...mpression=true

Next one is a lone wolf hero at the a Toronto Ferry Terminal targeting a Muslim family days after the Greek town shooting.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toron...mily-1.4764156

The great news is, this man was identified, found and charged! Have a great rest of your life loser!

What is wrong with people...

Lauren Southern was just in Sydney...

I really hope Canadians don't have to hear too much from this moronic tool. Wow what a dumb stupid idiot. She was in a Lebanese area not far from me making a fool of herself calling it a no go zone despite walking past very stereotypical Aussies eating in the restaurants and drinking in the English pub. Dumb dumb dumb.

I've read that her event in Auckland will cost $700 a ticket. What a con artist.

Con artist is a good description. All she does is repeat alt-right catch phrases and her supporters lap it up, despite the fact she is a college drop out with zero real world experience who is completely clueless about immigration, race, and religion.

Comparing to Jordan Peterson for example, he is at least an experienced intellectual who understands the issues and can express them coherently. I consider him a bit of a jerk who I don't always agree with, however I enjoy listening to him speak and am able to find some common ground with his views.

Not that Lauren Southern is worth defending, but that dude's proposed tactics demonstrate everything that's wrong with his ilk.

Stuchbery is kind of a meme and represents a lot of problems some on the left have.

I mean, let's not pretend Trump cultists don't gleefully dance at the chance to passively play provocateur, even if Stuchbery is effectively blaming the victim and admittedly does often act like an asshat.

Well I'm sure you saw the video but those kids didn't deserve any of the abuse they received, even if some Trumpers are arrogant and in your face.

"she responded to that harassment by imitating the rhetoric of her harassers"

That's a pretty weird justification. How did she know that her online harassers were white, and why would that justify her comments about white people in general? That seems like the definition of racism to me.

it's not a justification at all. She is the definition of racist bigot - BUT she's press , she's left and and a woman, and and POC - all good!

But it is really really weird that the NYT would hire a person who openly holds racist views. It's weirder still to see all the people defending it on twitter.

Either being prejudiced is okay, or it isn't.
