Yeah, I think there is a fairly moderate group of people who can take value from what he’s saying, but it’s true that a very vocal and prominent part of his fan base, the people who have latched onto him with an almost religious fanatascism, are comprised of the alt-right.

It’s one of those things. You’re not alt-right if you like Jordan Peterson, but if you’re alt-right, you almost assuredly love Jordan Peterson.

Just a thought... Maybe Tim isn't the issue.

Peterson has condemned the alt right numerous times and doesn't want to be associated with them at all. What is he supposed to do?

You're right, worldwide rhetoric has definitely swung more left in the last 2 years, what was I thinking.

Stop accepting their money?

Yeah, it has.

How is he supposed to do this through Patreon? A question that asks if you are alt-right, and if so, doesn't let you subscribe? Do actually think alt-righters are a significant source of income for him?

This proclivity of people to barrage Peterson for making money through YouTube or Patreon is absolutely ridiculous. Figures on both the right and the left are monetizing all of this. What makes Peterson different here?

Left wing identify politics consistently clog up the news moreso now and over the last two years than they ever have in the past. Bipartisan attacks like what we saw in that NBC clip are regular occurrences.

Yes, there is no question the worldwide rhetoric has swung more to the left

There was a strong trend from about ~2005-2014 of leftist rhetoric (the rise of the SJW if you will), but from 2015 til now, particularly since Trump's election, rightist rhetoric has been only getting louder. If you don't see that, I don't even know if we live on the same planet.

Of course the right is getting louder, which in turn is a response to the left who have gotten louder.

The difference is when somebody on the right disagrees with somebody on the left, their go-to term is often "SJW" or "####" or "soyboy".

When somebody on the left disagrees with somebody on the right, they are "deplorables" or "racists" or "Nazis". Just look at the embarrassing tweets by our very own MPs Celina Caesar-Chavannes or Ahmed Hussen.

You do realize that with the advent of Social media, no one has the same view of the planet?

I mean, it's highly possible, if not completely true, that you are both right - your news has increased in rightist rhetoric, and his has increased in leftist?

I know my feed is very different from my brothers. And we even have somewhat similar viewpoints - certainly closer than the two of you.

Well I mean outside of antisemitism, the right has a pretty firm monopoly on bigotry.

You said bigotry, which has the definition of "intolerance toward those who hold different opinions from oneself."

So if you think that only describes the right side of the political spectrum, you are proving my point.

Nobody on the left calls anyone on the right a racist or a Nazi because they disagree on the economy or fiscal policy or healthcare or education or free trade. If someone is criticized for being a racist or a bigot, it's because they have bigoted or racist views about women or racial minorities or Jews or Muslims or immigrants or LGBT people, etc., etc. Or, in the case of Richard Spencer and his idiot band of tiki torch wielding followers, people call them Nazis because they literally are actual neo-Nazis.

Yeah, that was just laziness on my part so I didn't have to type out sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, classism, xenophobia and racism.

You can't think of any situation where somebody called other people racist, despite there being no evidence that they were racists, but simply disagreed with the perspective of the other person?

Hell, we saw Rachel Notley call out Conservative members for "mansplaining", which is in itself a derogatory and sexist term.

That's kind of my point that I was trying to get at earlier in the thread.

I put a notable effort in reading/viewing/participating in things that are waaaay outside my sphere of agreement, which I hope gives me a relatively more significant idea of what exists out there.

Effectively, I'm a social sadist I think. Maybe I should talk to my therapist about it.

You're familiar with the terrain, pathways, and battleground of the Culture Warz. That includes the strongholds of your most fanatical opponents. I haven't a clue who or what most of the memes you talk about are.

One of the features of the social media Culture Warz is both the ideological left tribe and ideological right tribe have created a kind of self-sustaining binary fury by addressing themselves almost exclusively to their most extreme opponents.

Henry Adams said: "Politics is the systematic organization of hatreds." The social media world we've created is a damning testament to that observation.
