Laine looks slow but I love the way he skates, He's so big his speed is very decieving. And he's the shooter. Flames could use a shooter. Puljujarvi though does everything amazing.

Canada gets 2 wins, only one in regulation time against Denmark, they other was against the lowest finishing team, Suisse, and that took a shoot out.
I feel like that goal the Finns scored at the end of the 1st was a turning point. There were many turning points after that, yes, but Canada was in complete control until that point.

No it isnt. Virtanen and Hicketts have been taking dumb penalties all tournament long and yet the coach keeps sending them out there, no consequences at all.
I mean finally Virtanen got benched. For the last 70 seconds of an elimination game with the team down by 1. Thats like waiting until the clock counts down to 0:02 to diffuse the bomb.
In addition to not adapting any of his tactics or personnel. He just kept rolling out the same people over and over and, predictably, getting the same results and not adapting.
This one is going to hang around Lowry's neck for a long time.

Hickey had a rough game today; felt bad for him when he tripped on that breakaway goal

Quite simply this team was not very good and had zero chemistry. Was the chemistry issue coaching? I'm not sure, players looks selfish the whole tournament. Barzal had a shift where he just skated around making fancy stick handle moves and you could see others on the ice getting upset. Just seemed to kill any momentum Canada had and Finland potted two shortly after that. Same with Virtanen, selfish plays that helped no one. Kid has tools but can't think the game fast enough. I thought that years ago and still think it now.
Tough one but that team wasn't getting anywhere near the gold.

Lowry looked like such an up and comer just a few years ago. It's becoming clearer why the Flames parted ways with him (even if it was mutual).

There are no more games for teams that lose in the quarterfinals.

I agree players should be benched. I couldn't believe JV got another shift after that double minor. still...it was the players doing the act.
Lowry not pulling Blackwood after goal 3 or FOR SURE #4 was mind boggling. The finns had so much momentum, the ice was so tilted, we were on our heels....call the freaking time out and change the goalie FFS!
Well we for sure wouldn't have made it past Sweden so .....? lol

I'm a little worried. Swedes have had a much better defense. Finland needs to tighten up a lot of they want to play for gold.

The good news for Virtanen is his RGI is off the charts for this tournament.

He's still one hell of a coach. Sure he may have been out coached and miss used his bench, but this team was a disappointment all tournament.
Poorly constructed if you ask me. Alot of players showed their true colours.

3 things that in my opinion that really lost this game:
Coaching, Lowry made so many mistakes, biggest one leaving Blackwood in net.
Goaltending, not much can be said about how bad Blackwood is, no idea how he didn't get yanked.
Virtanen, never seen such a stupid player, he fits the canucks perfect.

Alright, so I guess we finally get to hear the rumours of Hickey going to the rebels or staying with B.U now.

He showed nothing in this tournament to indicate he's a good coach. Some of his players were disappointments and yet he stubbornly kept riding them right into the abyss.
Embarrassing coaching at this level.

Exactly. But instead he just kept on keeping on. Same players, no changes not even a timeout. Nothing.
I was starting to wonder if it was a cardboard cutout of Dave Lowry behind the bench.
Like, I get that Hicketts, Virtanen and Blackwood were 'his guys' and even if we concede that Blackwood is the superior goalie sometimes you still have to make changes to affect momentum and whatever the case was Blackwood wasnt on it today at all. Shaky, fighting the puck.
But over the whole camp it was made painfully obvious that Blackwood was the man so nobody had any faith in any of the other goaltenders and the goaltenders didnt play all that well because why should they, its obviously Blackwood's net they're just there to make up the numbers.
