Thats fascinating because his agent seems to disagree with you. But, you know, what the hell do agents know?

The Heritage Classic may have been the catalyst in Roberto Luongo's move out of Vancouver, according to his agent Pat Brisson.
Luongo, long the subject of trade rumours, was benched in favour of Eddie Lack on Sunday against the Ottawa Senators, and Brisson said he was given to explore other options for his client after that.
Brisson joined Hockey Night in Canada Radio on Sirius XM hosts Rob Pizzo and David Amber Wednesday to talk about what fuelled Luongo's trade to the Florida Panthers Tuesday.

Brisson: if Luongo played in the Heritage Classic he might still be a Canuck.

But I'm sure you're right. Blaster knows best.

The men that have played in this league in the 70s, 80s and 90s should step up and give these guys a good stiff slap in the back of the head.
|
To be fair there is a lot more exposure now for athletes in terms of twitter and the insane amount of media coverage hockey gets in canada. Good chance guys bitched about stuff like this back in the day but the public was not made aware

He said Luongo didn't ask for a trade. Nothing you posted says that he did. I think it was pretty much common knowledge that Luongo was upset following his non-start there but it's never been reported that he went back and asked to be traded again.

I dont know if you're being intentionally obtuse or if you're falling into it by accident, but when an agent says:
"After Luongo was benched in favour of Eddie Lack he was given clearance to explore other options for his client." Other options is agentspeak for 'Trade.'
Thats about as clear as you can ask for a trade without expressly saying the words "Trade Me" into a microphone.

Wait, what?
Eddie Lack had not played a single NHL game at that time.
He had just finished a season in the AHL with 13 games, a 3.00 GAA and an .899 save percentage.
(was looking for the post where someone called Lack one of the top 20 goalies in the league and found this)

Hate me all you want for bumping the thread, but I was wondering...
What are Luongo's stats as of now being a Panther?
What are 7ack's after Luongo left?
Just really curious to see the mistake Vancouver has made.

Edit - Better answer above, lol.
Not gonna figure out the GAA, but..
Luongo - 1-2-0 - 85 saves/92 shots = 92.4 Save Percentage
Lack - 2-3-0 - 118 saves/133 shots = 88.7 Save Percentage

That's hilarious. Even with one a team like Florida, Luongo is still putting up good numbers.
He was obviously the problem.

Canucks vs. Panthers this Sunday. I really hope Torts does the right thing and starts Lack against Luongo.

On the eve of the Panthers Canucks game:
Farhan Lalji @FarhanLaljiTSN
Luongo conceeds Heritage Classic snub set wheels in motion for trade. Adds: "Something weird was going on when I got back from the Olympics"
Harvey Fialkov @hfialkov
Luongo was asked by TSN reporter if he missed spotlight of Canadian media: "Is that a trick question,'' he joked. #FlaPanthers

The thing that impresses me about Luongo is his save percentage is usually pretty consistent.

I cannot stand Roberto Luongo but I would be so happy if he plays lights out against the Canucks even shutting them out on 40 shots. I can just see Torts and Gillis' face when that happens. I am also sure that the cheer Looooooussss we really hated will become boooooossss at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

I'd think it will be Markstrom since they play Tampa tomorrow. And Markstrom would get absolutely destroyed against them. Heck, I think even Florida will light him up. Will be fun to watch either way.

Gillis was lucky that someone even took Luongo's garbage contract. Last season he was asking too much from Toronto or Florida but those two just thanks but no thanks. So in the end Gillis ended up losing his supposedly future starting goaltender Cory Schneider and settled with a rookie goaltender and a backup goalie who couldn't hack it in Florida. If the Canucks don't make the playoff this season, Gillis is good as gone and maybe Torts will follow unless the new GM saves him.
