The worst for me by far was knifing poor Mrs. Stark in the stomach over and over. I think she's supposed to live in the books, so that felt like a cheap shot for shock value. Honestly, I probably could have done without that part, but the focus for that scene was largely on Robb and Catelyn. The Umbers, etc. were all background actors that didn't really factor in very much. Thinking about it, quite a bit of what happened after the first shots were fired was changed in little ways. Oh well.

It was gruesome for sure, definitely worthy of the tittle Red Wedding.

I liked the part with the chainmail on Roose's arm, similar to the books if I remember right where she grabs someones arm. Overall a good episode, lots of movement.

Internet meltdown in 3 .. 2 .. 1..

I haven't read the 3rd book in a while, but I think that Robb's wife was supposed to live, too. At least until she had the baby, so that it could be used in claims against the North.

It was a fan rumour that Jeyne Westerling was pregnant, and this episode just kind of literally "killed" that rumour in it's tracks by making sure there was no heir in the show.

The next big moments I'm looking forward to on the screen are:

1) Joffery's death. I have (not so jokingly) stated in the past that I would be content with an entire episode dedicated to glorious multi-angle slow motion of him choking to death. I really want that scene to be done well.

2) The duel between The Red Viper and The Mountain - man, I hope they can make this as epic as it was on the pages; and

3) Tyrion's final confrontation with Tywin. It's another one that is just a huge payoff and a long time in the making.

After that - well, by then, hopefully we'll have an inkling of the next book. I guess we'll have the Aegon reveal (was it Aegon that Tyrion meets up with in Essos?), as well as more dragon stuff. But after everything from ASoS, it seems like a whole lot of nothing happens in the next two books.

Eh, that will be kind of close, only because Lysa is so bat **** crazy. It gets an honorable mention then, good call.

That scene really gets to me in the books when it's revealed because you then know (at least I assume it's reliable enough to "know") that Littlefinger was the catalyst to the entire Stark/Lannister conflict. Maybe it all unfolds similarly without him, due to the ambition of the Lannisters or Robert's drunkenness or whatever. The conditions were all there -- but Littlefinger lit the match. Slimy little ****.

Interesting how they did the part with Arya, I guess they felt leaving us not knowing if she's dead or alive would have been too much, even if it was just for one episode?

Or maybe was just hard to do on screen the way it's described in the books.

I dunno, could have show the hound swinging his axe and having it fade to the credits right before he hits her. Maybe the were worried the internet would implode if Arya died as well...

It was only a fan rumor that Robs wife was preggers in the books? I could have sworn I read it somewhere but I must be crazy.

Jeyne was being fed anti-fertility drugs by her mother, via agreement with Tywin. So she wasn't pregnant in the books and this should squash any hypothesis otherwise.

I really thought they should have include the Greatjon in the scene. He was so awesome in the book. Curious as to why he wasn't included considering he had plenty of face time in Season 1.

Overall though I thought it was done pretty well.

The rumor revolves around an small inconsistency in how Jayne is described by Cat and later by Jamie. Cat describes her hips as good for child bearing, while Jamie describes her as too thin for it not to be a problem pregnancy. Also Jayne has a sister who is mentioned, but Jamie does not include her when he describes the Westerling family in his scene.

People then speculated that the Westerlings or possibly Blackfish had pulled a switch (likely without Lady Westerling's knowledge/consent) and kept Jayne at Riverrun (pregnant with the Rob's heir) and substituted the sister to fool the Lannisters.

I don't understand why they changed the story from the book. It makes Tywin look like a much better mastermind knowing he set up the Frey cross right from the beginning. What was the point of Robb's wife in the show other than showing that she was compassionate and a fine piece of trim?

I guess less characters to cast? With Jeyne you have her whole family around, with Talisa you have them conveniently thousands of miles away from any camera.

Agreed, they had to get him good and drunk and even then it took 3-4 Freys to stop him from wielding his drum stick as a weapon.

No mention of any hostages and I didn't look very closely but it was hard to make out if they actually took any.. How will this play out in the later shows with Wyman bending the knee to save his son?

I also really don't like how they cast Roose Bolton. Looks and acts nothing like how the books describe him.

I was wondering if that was the spoiler GL had pm-ed to MMF.

I didn't want to post in the TV thread because what if it was the purple wedding or Tyrion/Tywin? That would give a heads up of more to come.

I kind of hope that this big surprise, the first major one since Ned, will result in show watchers letting their guard down a bit next season.

And someone on Reddit posted this as

"Game of Thrones: book readers vs. non-book readers (last night's episode edition)"

Wendel died at the Red Wedding.

Wylis was captured by the Mountain on Roose's way to the RW.

Wyman Manderly instantly became one of my favorite characters after he butchered those three Freys, made them into pies and served them to their kin at a banquet!
