They eventually find their way. The hawks will also appear. Keeps those damned rabbits at bay.

I don't know about GHOs, but Barn Owls are very good at taking out vermin and they take readily to nest boxes. Barn Owls also seem to like nesting in stacks of baled hay, which can be a real problem when someone shows up and trucks the hay away. Our local Audubon usually ends up with several clutches of chicks every year when the hay gets to its destination.

I seem to remember that GHOs nest in other raptors' abandoned nests. So if you've got hawks, the owls may take over when the hawks move on.

Owls don't make any noise when they fly, unlike other birds. I had one fly right over my head once and didn't hear it coming. Creepy and awesome.

I don't want to derail this thread, but just reading the stuff here and seeing the pics has really made me interested in owls. Check out this video I just watched.
