Completely agree. The girlfriend and I think Valentine's Day is a silly money grab like most people, but I still got her flowers and chocolate anyways. Was lucky this year as Chinese New Year fell on the same day and we had dinner with family and friends, otherwise, would have taken her out for dinner as well.

Don't have to go overboard with jewelery, etc. but a small gift and a dinner is better than nothing at all.

I think Valentine's Day is silly. I've really never been a fan, except maybe in high school where girls were totally humiliated if they didn't get a single flowergram.

I have a wedding anniversary that I'd rather celebrate. My son has had a hockey tournament the past two years over the weekend surrounding Valentines Day. It makes the fake holiday sort of disappear. I don't need flowers, jewelry or candy to know my husband loves me. In fact, if that was necessary, we'd have bigger problems than the ridiculous mark up on roses.

Thanks, but my fiance and I are common law so it literally is 365 days a year for me too

Married men sometimes take their wives for granted and I've worked with enough married women to know they still do envy the "lucky ones" on Valentine's day

You spent your money on gifts instead of donating it to a worthier cause??? There are people in Haiti dying right now because of your selfish choice. You are a real piece of work.

The "lucky ones?"

Because you spend some money on Valentines Day, you turn your girlfriend into a "lucky one?" Seriously? Are you actually engaged?

Anyone ever been to Japan on Valentines day? I was there last year, and on Valentines day, the girls have to make the moves to woo the guys. And if the guys feel like paying the favor back, they have a second Valentines Day in March called "White Day" - no joking.

The poor women of Haiti enjoy getting flowers too, you know. Where are their flowers, 7uongo, where are their flowers? I sent $100 worth of flowers to them, myself. Yup.

Gotta love the "every single expendable dollar should go to Haiti" rep I'm being tagged with

for everyone who couldnt read before, I'm advocating donations to those who have immediate needs, not to those who could easily help themselves

So people should stop donating to CP?

And everyone in Haiti has immediate needs. I don't understand how that post was meant to differ from the quoted statement.

I wonder how many bottles of clean water they could have bought for these children for the price of some silly flowers.

Flowers die. He could have given the gift of life to some poor Haitian.
