Unfortunatley i dont have a link that shows the content of the magazine . I subscribe to the mag myself and actually found out about this fundraiser from subscribing. I umpire little league in the summers and one of the teams did this fundraiser and I ended up being a subscriber.
Also I just realized that you can get this magazine digitally as well with your insider subscription. You get to access the insider services with your paid subscription
http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/magazine/index
Here is the link @ Espn. They sell the subscription for 52 dollars , so your getting a great deal buying it via the fundraiser.
If you want I can take some pictures of one of my mags if need be to show your article content and such...

You come off as a major ######. Not only do you complain about his thread, but you belittle him for 1. Selling a Magazine Subscription for cheaper then you can get anywhere else. 2. Donating $5 back to this site 3. Helping bring the sport to new fans in the States.
Keep up the good work Nicker. Free bump, and I will check my funds and probally get a subscription.
|
Bringing the sport to fans who already had interest in it? If they were that interested, they could've shelled out their own money for it. We arent talking about adults who are working minimum wage and are living in poverty.
Selling Magazine subscriptions people wouldnt normally care about but If you want to know who the real winner in all of this, it's ESPN

Yes, there is horrbile things going on in the world right now, Millions and millions of people need money. I pick and choose where my money goes as carefully as I can. And if I want a subscription to a magazine, while helping someone play a sport they obviously love, so be it.
Next time a Girl Guide comes to your door to sell cookies, do us all a favour, prove yourself... rant on them about Haiti... then kick them off yor porch. Post it on youtube, and send us all the link proving your point. At least Ren manned up and ate his pubes, what have you got?
|
What have I got? I donated just over a hundred dollars last month for the Haiti relief and more so in previous months. Are you going to call for a youtube video everytime someone argues your point? I dont owe you or anyone anything. I have the satisfaction of knowing my dollar went a long way in helping Haitian families get fed and rebuild their lives. That's what I got. You probably have done nothing prior to typing this out and I'm willing to bet that you havent done anything yet to help out nickerjones. So why dont YOU man up and do something good
Im not going to point a gun at people to donate, but if you have the disposable income to make a donation anyways, donate it to people with real immediate needs. There are People who dont even have the luxury of playing hockey but rather worry if they have enough water, or food, or trying to provide clothing and shelter for their families. You probably didnt know this, but there are people in the world who actually worry if they could survive another day

Can't you donate or help to more than just one cause?
I've donated to Haiti and it really doesn't matter how much.
Some people donate to more than just one cause including the Haiti relief but those same people also have disposable income that goes other places living their lives, magazines or magazine subscriptions.
I've actually looked into the magazine, which I had no idea about, and it seems to be a pretty good magazine covering all sports which interests me. If nickerjones didn't offer it to CPers I would never know about it, if I choose to subscribe shouldn't I do him the favor back in going through him to get some funds to his hockey program and to CP?
If you spend all your disposable income on charity and donations then I honestly want to buy you a beer next time I'm in Calgary. However if you go to even one hockey game or buy one magazine you are a hypocrite IMHO.

I have a couple pairs of gloves (1 new and 1 used) and a pair of new itech shoulder pads, a pair of 1 season RBK pants (couple cuts in them), and an almost new (twice worn) pair of size 11 2006 CCM 852 Tacks I can donate. Someone on the site was offering to send the stuff down... who was that?

First off let me say that I am not wanting this thread to turn into a pissing match. However, I can also tell you 7uongo that myself and my co workers donated a substanial amount of dollars from our bonuses this year to Haiti. Also there are many other causes to donate to as well. I know for one there is a CP member who is raising money for a cancer cause. Are you going to Donate to him or are people with cancer not high on your totum of needy people? If you do want to donate him , PM me and I will give you his username. We will donate together 7uongo!
However please forgive me but I want to share a little story .
My lil brother is a great guy. We grew up playing sports, He was very athletic ,as I was and could have went to college to play sports as well. He took a different route. He got engaged and had kids very early. Last year his wife , just left. No warning , just upped and left him and his two girls. She said she found someone else and she was gone.
He went from a 2 income family to a one income family and it has been quite tough on him. He has been depressed and has had a hard time with it. Its been hard to watch him struggle but I am proud of him for doing what he has to do. He hasnt been able to go out much or do much of anything. That is why I wanted him to play and have offered to take care of his share if I can.
Yesterday afternoon the guy who is in charge of our league called and said they were having some pick up games and he would like to invite us out free of charge. He would have some pads that the guys who didnt have any could wear. I got about 4 of the guys to go. My wife watched my nieces so my brother could go. This was his first time in pads , the first time he ever tried to actually play hockey. Hell I had to explain to him what offsides was before the game started. He loved it though , he got out on the ice and although was slow and unsure he caught on quite quickly. Now these guys we were playing with werent great either but Hey we were playing hockey. About halfway through the 2nd period a pass goes to my brother . His takes his first shot ever, the most awkward swing you will ever see, and guess what ! He actually scores... I think it bounced off one of the other guys skates. He was so happy and excited , and it meant a lot for me to see him like that.
Today he came to work , still had a smile on his face and there hasnt been a person in this office who hasnt heard the story from him twice. Its been a long time since i have seen him excited and happy.
That is why I bump this thread 7uongo. Might not sound like a lot to anyone else but its a lot to me .
If you dont wanna donate, or want to donate to something else.. that is ok . I havent tried to force this on anyone!

Hey Nicker, CPSW is selling subscriptions to a fanzine written on a napkin by Locke. It won't help us pay for league fees, it is strictly for beer.
If you could just see Flameskickass's face when the beer comes to the table... I am tearing up right now.
ps I won't buy your subscription, I did donate to Haiti, but I am donating some equipment that I don't use. Picking up same from Frankster, and hoping to meet up with Ken0042 today/tomorrow.

Hey Aeneas, remember I have seen FKA's face when beer arrives. For that reason I am donating no less than 2 schooners of Kokanee Gold to the team. FKA... that lil guy, he loves his beer !
Locke however is still on my list after feigning an illness so he could hang out with soccer moms rather than coming to pete's with the boys.
P.S. thanks for your old stuff, better not smell like old beer throw up!!!!

I'm putting together a box to send down, but once I get the stuff from Frankster and Aeneas it may be a couple of boxes.
I'll PM you pylon, but if there are others maybe let me know so we can co-ordinate getting the stuff together.

Nice work... you have no idea who I am, or what situation I'm in. I have a two year old son, and another on the way. Funds are tight right now.
So what have I done? First off, I've been upfront with Nicker about not buying a subscription off him. I've told him my situation, and have also talked to him outside of CP, as he questioned if he should even post this thread. He wasn't sure there was going to be any interest, clearly there has been, from people who can help, and royal ######bags.
As for Haiti, I donated over $200 worth of Hitmen tickets to YYC4Haiti, an amazing night at Flames Central. I also donated time to the event, and $50 cash out of my already tight pocket.
I've also helped out around my work to make sure another Haiti fundraiser in Airdrie got off the ground. I didn't donate any money to that, but I put in my time to make sure it got done.
So yeah, I'm pretty sure for a guy who makes just over minimum wage, trying to balance a family, and who's trying to help out a friend, I'm pretty sure I've done my part.
My point about the youtube comment is that I don't see you pissing on people who fundraise for other causes that don't go to third world countries, or World Vision or the like. You seem to be on a high horse about this one cause, and are making sure to poop all over the idea of people wanting to play hockey.
As I said before, I don't make a lot. I wish I could buy a subscription, and it wouldn't be to spite you '7uongo'. It would be to help out someone I get a long with.
In closing, please go troll somewhere else.
EDIT: BTW, 7uongo... I'm have an extra pair of hockey pants. Can the kids in Haiti use them at all, or is it OK to send them to Nicker? Just want to make sure before I make a commitment that I check in with you first.
