If they want to call it the 'St. Patrick's' bridge then it needs a bar. Sorry, thems the rules, ask the Irish.

They should call it the Patrick bridge, and it should have sound boxes that just constantly complain about how crappy the Flames are as you walk across it.

I disagree it shows that by asking 20 to 30 firms to submit options for the bridge you get a few amazing designs to choose from that are equal or better to the fancy bridge designer and you get choice instead of being stuck with one option
As for the bridges my favourites are:
Halcrow The Reach
Associated Engineering option 1
Rosales and Schlaich
Dejong
Busby Perkins
Though not one of my favourites I perfer Rogers Stirk Harbour Bridge to the Calatavara

^^ a full third of those proposals are direct ripoffs of Calatrava's past work. At the very least his own design for the Peace Bridge isn't derivative of himself.
Are you suggesting a Calatrava bridge is ok as long as he didn't design it?

Not only do many of the designs look very similar to his past work, there are a couple of proposals in the entire field that look awfully similar to the Peace Bridge itself. I'm not sure what those firms were thinking....why would go out of its way to build two similar bridges?

This is exactly what I was thinking... it just doesn't make sense. Next thing you know, we're going to see 3 new buildings that look exactly like the Bow.

I'm going to guess that the people that submitted the Peace Bridge knockoff will use its failure as proof that Calatrava's design wouldn't have been good enough to win a design competition. Even if that wasn't the intention I'm sure the Sun will bring it up at some point.

I wouldn't worry about S+P's submission for this bridge, the one that looks like Calatrava's. Their glory will likely be coming tonight in a different form.

I like the Infinity Engineering design, it would look sharp all lit up against the night Skyline.

I guess I am in the minority, why not just build 2 peace bridges. One at Sunnyside and one at St Pats.
It is just a pedestrian bridge. Make one red and one blue to symbolize our great province.

No, I do not know for sure. I said that it is 'likely'.

Right, sorry missed the "likely".
S + P would be a good choice, as would be SPF:a
Should be interesting.

They could say that, then the City or CMLC could say that they prefer having a Ferrari and Rolls-Royce rather than two Ferraris.

Not to hijack a thread, but just to let everyone know, the City will never again allow a private property to be built over a public street. Too many legal issues. Hence, SPF's submission is fundamentally flawed. Aside from that fact, their submission is superb. Doubt it'll happen, though.

^ except that 4 our of the 5 proposals do build above the street in some fashion with bridges that link the the eddie with the east parcel. Is there a distinction between a bridge and a bridge with uses in it?

Yes. +15's are a different story.
The City won't do another TD Square. Trust me.
