Yes i work for Telus but we are now doing Sat TV signal comes from Bell but it is all Telus for everything else and i have heard from Customers that it is going really well.

Until the weather fata's with it. I'm no longer with Bell because every time I wanted to stay inside(because of inclement weather) and watch TV, the effin thing lost signal.
I find the guide better on Shaw too, a title search is painless, in comparison.

Weather can be a problem but since I went with bigger dishes, I lose my Bell signal less often than I lose my Shaw internet.

What really bothers me now is the amount of compression. It seems about the same on both carriers, maybe a little worse on Shaw.
I thought Bell would get better by moving to 8PSK (which I thought was happening this summer). But, it seems the compression is even worse now than it was in the spring.
|
Bell actually did switch to 8PSK a few months back, but I think they used the extra capacity to offer more channels rather than increase the bitrate on their streams. I suspect that they're waiting on an MPEG-4 transition before things really improve.
I've never been that enamored with the HD quality from Shaw or Bell, but Shaw's "Digital TV" was by far the worst I've ever seen. Analog TV actually looks better than that crap. What I wouldn't give for a decent IPTV setup where each stream was 18-25 Mb/s @ 1080p.
Hopefully we get more OTA HDTV around here. I here the quality is second to none right now.

fu bell!
Well, was with bell for about 9 years, of suck, had such classic csr as, called to complain about hockey game black out on hd when available on sd, he never answered by question, just thought I needed to subscribe to some pron channels, they shut down all my receivers for half a day while they were doing a software upgrade, called three time and got hung up on three times once even heard the person breathing before the hang up, and then notice that came saying that because I had a old programing package, I would need to pay a extra monthly "fee" to maintain my old package, or I could switch to a new package that split the old packs into two, so I would have to pay twice for what I once had. But wait here is the kicker, I decided to switch over to Shaw starting this past June, called bell with eight days left of what I had paid for, and was told that I had to pay for another month because I wasn't 30 days notice, so I am supposed to pay them $109 for nothing, even though I have never had any kind of contract with them, as I heard this I got out a bill and checked it over and over, and there is no such thing stated anywhere on it. So now I am being extorted and threatned with being sent to a collection agency, I am going to contact local global and ctv, and maybe the sun.
As far as quality, I think the Shaw hd looks better than bell did, digital and analog cable not that great, bell had some non hd channels that looked crappy to.

Good thing they worked hard to get those licenses. They had a whopping two games in HD this week. Garbage company with a garbage product.

SHAW HD is a joke. The only thing keeping me with them is the fact I split the cost with my parents, where as I would be paying the whole thing for TELUS satelite

Terrible week again. Two games on the Sunday Ticket games in HD in the morning, one in the afternoon, with two of those games being on the regular HD channels. This company is terrible.

So you're saying that with Sunday Ticket, you're only getting 3 games in HD?

TELUS and Bell have the best HD equipment in the business when you get their satellite. and the best quality.

How many games on the centre ice package with shaw get shown in HD? I just switched over to Shaw just so I can get centre ice, I'd prefer to be able to watch most Flames games in HD.
Got the HD PVR with Shaw...its amazing. I'm in a condo and can't get satellite, but so far Shaw kills my Telus TV service that I had previously.

Seconded. I've had satellite for 5 years and we've lost the signal maybe 5 times. Never for more than an hour, usually less than 20 minutes and only during a horrendous thunderstorm type thing. Also never during anything I cared about (ie not sports or porn).
Oh, and once when wet snow accumulated on our dish. We just had to clean the snow off.

the best way to keep snow off your dish is by spraying pam on it
never put hot water on your dish as it will warp it
