Only 1 week away now. Is anybody here planning on standing in line for the midnight release?

You can pre-purchase it through Blizzard and be ready to play right at midnight. Standing in line would be beyond insane.

Unless you want a Collector's Edition. You can pre-download the game without buying a digital copy too. You will just use the disc to install the last few MBs.

I was talking with a guy who said you only had an hour to download the digital copy. Is that true?
(I haven't played WoW since Beta, so I really am just curious)

Once the game is associated with your battle.net account you can download it as many times as you want through Blizzards P2P system.

That is false. You can download the digital copy anytime after purchase and it only take about an hr to download it as well (for me anyways).
Also since the Shattering last Tuesday, this is by far the most fun I have had playing this game.

Here is my question - if we just purchased Lich King, has the Cataclysm patch erased that campaign? Ex. is the Lich King dead, and is that whole campaign unplayble now? The world has totally changed before we ever got a chance to play it in that state?

No, Outland and Northrend are left virtually untouched. The pre-Cataclysm patch actually adds all the new level 1-60 content at no cost to those with Wrath or TBC. It's a good buy for people getting into the game right now since they get a much better leveling experience and Cataclysm related content without having to buy Cataclysm.
Storylines in Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms will assume you've killed the Lich King, but if you level up and quest in Northrend, it will be the same as launch day of Wrath.
(PS. One more day to buy WoW digitally from Blizzard cheap - $5 for Classic WoW, $5 for The Burning Crusade, $10 for Wrath.)

Level 1-60 will be completely new, Outlands (levels 58-68) will stay the same, and Northrend (level 68-80 zones) remained unchanged after the shattering. You can still experience the Lick King expansion the way it was intended, although it will be a lot tougher to find instance/raid groups once most people graduate to Cataclysm.
Note: They reduced the exp needed to go from 70-80 by 20% in the latest patch.

What he may be referring to is you have 1 hour to finish the download and install it if you want to start playing as soon as the servers come up. They go live at midnight PST, so 1:00 AM Calgary time.
Most of the game is pre-downloaded, and the Digital Copy/Install disk will just fill the few gaps of data to complete the install.

I just started playing just in the spring and was just purchasing the add-ons as I came to them. So it was perfect I bought BC about 2 months ago and was just about to buy WOTLK and it was on sale for $10 bucks online.
BTW great time to start playing. You get WOW, BC and WOTLK for $20 total online.
Anyone else on the server VELEN?
I would be interested in have a Calgarypuck guild on a server somewhere since there is obviously some hard cores and casuals on this site.

A couple weeks ago I had 23 quests in my log. Then after the shattering there were only 2 left. I haven't even tried playing with any of my 80s yet.

Futureshop, Best Buy, EB Games for starters. Deerfoot Meadows has all 3 of these so you can pick and choose.

Just curious...why would you go for a midnight release if you can purchase it digitally?

Most people who would go now are probably those getting the Special Edition. Some people do like having a physical copy, but the way battle.net works now there's really no point.

I might wait for a couple months to get it so there are more people geared before I jump into WoW again, or I just might leave my account unactivated. Anyone want to buy some 80s?

I stopped playing several months ago because I was too geared for heroics and too busy for raids. I just logged back in to see some of the recent changes, and I have to say, I don't think I'll bother getting the expansion. The game just seems too streamlined now. Talent trees have become one-dimensional. Every race can be almost every class.
This combined with how easy gear is to get now, dual specs, how easy gold is to get, guys riding around on motorcycles, vanity pets out the rear... the game has just become too silly and not very challenging.
WoW has officially jumped the shark.
