Give the cat to Marek Zidlicky, he'll take care of it for you!

It's becoming a big deal:

the field of animal law is growing. Nearly half of the 190 accredited law schools in the United States now offer animal law courses, up from a handful 10 years ago, and around 100 now have chapters of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund. A rising number of lawyers are dedicating themselves, in whole or in part, to the practice, and the American Bar Association and 13 state bar associations now have animal law committees.

Wow what a bitch.

Tell her to piss off, if she wants to go to court over a cat, then go to court. Had she contacted you before the cat, I would have said she is trying anything to get back together with you, but this just sounds f'd up.

? Not obvious at all. She was the considered the owner of both cats - they had a verbal agreement that they each take one of the cats during the split and then he switched over the paperwork on kitty's first trip to the vet post psycho-hose-beast era. 100% perfectly explainable and logical.

I'm kind of old school in my thinking. I would just jump the gun on her and talk to the cops. Tell them that its your cat but she took it to the vet and listed herself as the primary owner because you weren't there at the time. Just be honest.
If this doesn't work, you will have to use your personality to create some fear within her. Just act like you could snap at any time. Refer to Dion Phaneuf or Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino) for how to do this.
Hopefully she doesnt have a key to your place either.......

We thought about opening a pet law department. It comes up all the time. I've drafted some trusts where people left $100K + to their pets. Seems to me the SPCA gets more bequests in wills than any other charity (too bad people don't care more about other people).

You can cremate your pet, and turn the cremains into diamonds (Life Gems).

We had a big case where a municipality was trying to evict some noisy sled dogs. There have been dog bite injury claims. Pet custody battles.

My solution - clone the cat.

Trade her the cat for , get new cat.

edit - I guess this doesn't make much sense when an important word is filtered out, so just put in another word for cat inbetween "for" and ",".

I would make sure you keep as many receipts as you can find for the past 8 months of pet food, supplies, vet stuff, etc. If it comes down to your word vs hers about the verbal agreement; it help your case that it was now "your" cat if you can show that you have not only been caring for it, but buying toys, nail clippers, etc.

You should also stop talking about this in a public forum.

Ram a grenade up the cats butt, and when your ex shows up to get it, pull the pin, hand her the cat and run.

WTF, no jokes about a girl wanting pu**y? Maybe that's why you broke up in the first place. She was lebanese.

Tell her to go F herself, and change your locks so she can't come in and steal it. Was the cat black? Go to the SPCA with a can of spraypaint, get a new cat, and take that to her.

It would take a lot of time and money on her part to get the cat legally. I seriously doubt someone would go through that.

They say possession is 9/10ths of the law.

The only way she could get the cat from you is if she took you to civil court and won her case. I really doubt she will do that.

I sure as hell can guarantee you that the cops won't be pounding on your door looking for a cat to give to her.

Don't worry. Change your locks so she can't get in the house while you aren't home and everything will be fine.

in all seriousness, i'm not sure what you can do. There's more to ownership than simply what's written on a registration form, but going to court over it would be pretty costly. If you have any receipts or records that indicate that you have been caring for the cat etc. They could be useful.
awesome!
