Safeway Select Salsa (With the yellow lid).

All other brands might as well be ketchup...

It's the only item we purchase from Safeway, all of our grocery shopping is done at Superstore and sometimes Sobeys.

This thread is making me hungry.

And these pretzels are making me thirsty!

I love the Safeway brand salsa as well, the one with the corn and beans in it. Any heat is fine. Green, yellow, or red. Superstore has a good one too.

Superstore Thai wings. Yum!

I like to make my own Smoky BBQ pizzas, and as mentioned here, the Safeway brand sauce works great.

Get some pizza shells, spread some BBQ sauce on. I throw on some deli ham, quickly do up some chicken in a pan throw that on. Big chunks of red pepper and onion, and whatever cheese you like. I like stronger tasting cheeses like feta mixed in but all preferrence.

Better than take out, and cheaper (though probably not by much... ) and healthier too.

^^ I actually can stomach that stuff. After University, Kraft Dinner is a no-go for me.

President's Choice "The Decadent" chocolate chip cookie is great ... and I understand it's among the top selling cookies in the country.

Further to the previous post about comparison shopping and such, my wife and I love to take advantage of Superstore's "Buy $250, Get $30 Back" coupons. They happen about once a month and we use them to buy our dry goods/non-perishables for the month. Then the other 3 weeks in the month we end up spending around $50 (if not less) on perishables, so our grocery bills total around $400 for us and our son.

I know that Superstore can be a bad place for many people but if you time it alright, there's not too many people there. Saturday mornings are mostly dead and I think middle-of-the-week is the same. It's all about timing!

yep. and the fact I can fill up and get .07 a litre back is nice, too. I pay the equivalent of 0.619 per litre for gas, works for me.

Ah yes, I forgot about the gas coupons. They're awesome. Superstore also accepts the $5 off $50 purchase coupons from Co-Op that show up in those SUTP ticket books. There's 6 of them, so if you just use those 6 coupons each year, you are $10 up on the cost of the book.

My Mom says the Sobey's near her accepts the M&M coupons in there as well as long as you are buying meat.

They always carry out your groceries for you, so you don't need to be bothered with the cart. Though I have never been an employee at Co Op or any grocery store for that matter, I get the impression Co Op treats their workers better.

Their prices are competitive with any except Stupidstore. However, for me the agravation is hardly worth a few bucks.
I've never had a good service experience at CO OP. I must just be unlucky but now I drive farther for my shopping because of it. Superstore just aggravates me and I can't shop the meat department after hearing some stories (I'm sure every chain has some stories that put people off).

Back OT I have to agree with the Dr. Oker's pies. Have to try the VH plum sauce because whenever I run out because I'm not a fan of the Golden Dragon or Asian Family ones.

OFFICIAL YAM / SWEET POTATO DISTINCTION POST

You guys are all over the board, and don't really know what yams are.

So if you are in Safeway, both the orange and the light yellow colored ones are Sweet Potatoes. Sweet potatoes are just like potatoes, but a little higher in nutrients.

Yams on the other hand, I doubt Safeway has ever carried. They are a tuber that grows from a vine and is almost exclusivly cultivated in Africa. This is the vegetable that is insanely high in nutritional value. Problem is, its hard to find in North America; generally only carried in african specialty shops.

The misconception between the two arose when african slaves in the Southern US started calling sweet potatoes "yams" because they look similar. (Although quite different).

Yams

Sweet Potatoes

I am addicted to the Donut Croisants at Safeway.

Its the only "processed" thing I eat all week, its always in a moment of weakness after I come home from the gym on the weekends.

Precooked wings from Costco - great for football parties, etc and cheaper then M&M, and Pizza73

Precooked Thighs and Legs from Costco - best deal for chicken, buy them take off the skin, remvoe the meat, add some Sweet Chili Sauce to them, let marrinade for a few hours in the fridge, they are good for lunch for the whole work week.

From reading this thread, I am amazed how much people like plum sauce. I hate plum sauce. Just too sweet with no redeeming flavours.

While sweet potatoes are closer to regular potatoes in appearance, they are far more similiar to yams in nutritional value. They're actually even more nutritious them yams if you go by the chart here:

For the people that hate superstore, I was in this same boat until they opened a new one on center street near Beddington. This one is great, clean, not to busy, good produce, pretty much everything that the other superstores are not.

Also I found my fav salad dressing there, it is the maple balsamic. So amazing on fancy salads (mixed greens) not iceberg lettuce though.

The best salsa that I ever found was Newmans Own brand, man that was good.

That sounds heavenly. Will try one day.

More suggestions from me.

- I've only found them at Loeb in Ontario, but they come in an orange box ---chocolate covered cookies with caramel filling. WOW.

- For quick chicken/turkey for salads and soups, Superstore/Loblaws carries PC canned meat. Very tasty and easy (not cheap though).

- Schneider Napoli pepperettes. Salty and tasty snack; convenient protein and only 55 calories per stick.

I don't know, when they first opened I liked their stuff a lot more, but I have had some nasty things from there. I'd say I prefer the appetizer stuff more than anything else. I think their lasagna is horrible, but I don't care for any frozen lasagna.

There are 2 lasagnas, homestyle and supreme, the supreme is deee lish.

Just family supreme I think

Also, I didnt include M&M in my post cause its not a grocery store per say.

The BBQ Pork wraps are un fairly addictive. Also the Frozen Choc Chip yogurt is fantastic.
