I'm just poking fun, more or less to get a rise out of a few people who have worked really hard to get the softball teams going and to where they are now. But thanks REDVAN for starting what is turning out to be a really good time.

I hope to be more involved this time around, even though I don't know what is going on.

Me too. I've committed to one team already, and may commit to three more. I'd like the CP ball hockey team to be one of them.

I'd still like to play.

I hope there is a tournament in Okotoks, so we can all go camping together!

Hey guys,

As per what I did with slo-pitch, I don't really know anything about how to get the ball rolling on one of these teams, or more.

If anyone knows a good league or two, or it was posted above in the thread, let me know and I can make some calls, or feel free to do so if you can. I don't know when deadlines are, or anything.

I am still interested, and I know many others are likely good to go. Please help me get this thing back on track!

I looked at the CSSC site...looks like they have floor hockey only, and specifically state that they don't allow ball hockey gloves (amongst other things)....is this the type of league that people are interested in or do most people want a "pure ball hockey league"?

Try the Calgary Superleagues:

http://calgary.superleagues.ca/page/show/48564

I was in the Lethbridge one this summer and it was very good, so I assume the Calgary one is very similar. We played on a full arena surface (without the ice of course), not a gym, so lots of running if youre not used to it. Refs and scorekeepers were always there, and the stat keeping is very accurate and up-to-date. There are 4 tiers based on your skill level / competitiveness, and chances to go to provincials and/or nationals.

I think the CSSC requires you to use sticks with plastic blade and plastic shaft. Something I would not be interested in.

Yeah I played in the Calgary league this year, super fun and competitive. If we have a lot of interest the winter league starts up in December I think. Fall team registrations ended a couple weeks ago.

We would need to create team jerseys though, 1 home and 1 away as per the new rules.

Here's the breakdown for winter 08/09

Winter Season: January through April

Tier 4:
Least Competitive with a more recreational attitude towards the sport. Players who love the game but just want to have fun or improve their skills, or new teams who are new to hockey and need a place to start out

Player Equipment:
CSA approved helmets, gloves, and sticks are mandatory by all players. Optional equipment but recommended is elbow pads, knee and/or shin guards, full or partial face mask, and a protective cup.
Goalie Equipment:
Goalies must wear full protective equipment with CSA approved helmets and masks, pads, blocker and trapper. NO STREET HOCKEY EQUIPMENT OR CATS-EYE MASKS ARE ALLOWED.

Teams Required to have 2 Sets of Jerseys
After posting this change 1 year ago, teams are now required to have two sets of matching jerseys to avoid color conflicts. As the league continues to expand we have continuously been replacing lost pinnies and it is time to put the responsibility back to the teams to provide their own alternative uniforms. If you need to order your second set, please contact our jersey sponsor Silverback Sportswear ASAP as it can take up to 4 weeks to get jerseys ordered.

Team Registration Fee: $495 + GST
This fee includes the team rep's player fee of $195 plus the $300 deposit that will be held for team fines, not individual fines. Any remaining funds not used will be refunded at the end of the season or can be carried forward to next season's registration.

Teams must have a the equivelant of 14 Full Season players to start the season. You can Combine 2 Half Season players resulting in 1 Full Season Player
Full Season Player Registration Fee: $195 + GST
This fee includes all regular season and playoff games. This option will be available until the posted Roster Deadline.

I'm guessing 16-20 players would make a sufficient bench, We would need 1 full time goalie and another player with goalie gear ready to suit up just in case our goalie is MIA.

So 195 for registration + $15 to the team registration.

Or we could wait till the spring/summer season to create a CP team, You play in 3 different arenas (West Hillhurst, Huntington hills, Fairview).

Generally the time of play is anything from 7-11 pm on weekdays and 2-11 on weekends.

Our Price:

So if we wanted to actually make a team we could do what the CP rec hockey team is doing, use the Flames RBK edge jerseys, or do it in town. This all depends if CP wants to join the Super leagues

I wanna play! I used to play left wing and left D on ice, but haven't played anything more than shinny since pee wee. I'd rate my skill as average.

Ok guys, I have forgotten all about this.

Not sure if there are any good leagues or what? Still no suggestions? Someone get on the ball. I am a good thread starter but a crappy organizer. Someone who has some time and knows what they are doing please investigate.

I'd love to play as well, I'll see if I can find anything other than the superleagues we can possibly play in, as the season has already started. I'd say I'm a (g).

Superleagues is a good one if you are looking for some competitive ball hockey, I'd give it a shot in the winter leagues if that is what you are looking for. It can get a bit rougher and is more serious at higher levels obviously, but I'm sure its pretty rec oriented too at the lower divisions.

Good to see some ball hockey press here though. I converted a number of years ago and I love it quite a bit more than ice hockey these days. It is a great game, and has some significant differences. Love the floating blue lines.
